Alagappa University currently offers 151 programs at the PG, M.Phil and Ph.D levels in the Faculty of Science, Arts, Management and Education.

The Faculty of Science consists of Zoology, Nano Science, Energy Science, Bioelectronics and Biosensors along with other regular courses.

The Faculty of Arts consists of Women’s studies, English and Foreign Languages, Economics and Rural Development and many such interesting courses.

The Faculty of Management consists of Corporate Secretaryship, Banking and Insurance, International Business, Logistics Management and many more.

When the University was established in 1985 in the memory of the great Statesman Padmabhushan Dr. R.M. Alagappa Chettiar in Karaikudi, it had an objective of achieving excellence in all Spheres of Education, with particular emphasis on PEARL (Pedagogy, Extension, Administration, Research and Learning). It has achieved it by attaining Benchmark Quality in every domain of ‘PEARL’ to assure stakeholder delight through professionalism exhibited in terms of strong purpose, sincere efforts, steadfast direction and skillful execution.

The university consists of intellectually competent faculties that have compounded 107 awards/recognitions. The 23 International and 84 National awards, mark the faculty members’ excellence in diverse field as recognized by diverse bodies, including the Alagappa University. Subbiah (M.A., M.Ed., M.Phil., Ph.D.) is known for his versatility, professionalism and dedication for making this university a ‘National Centre of Excellence’ and subsequently a ‘World Class University’.

Prof.Dr. S. Subbiah has an experience of over 23 years in University and College level teaching and about 2 decades of exceptional administrative experience in many Universities and Colleges in Tamil Nadu. He has served as the Member of the Convenor Committee where he performed the duties of the Vice-Chancellor at Bharathidasan University, Trichy and at Madurai Kamraj University. As a Researcher, Dr. Subbiah had focused his Ph.D research in the area of “Application of ICT in English Language Teacher Education”. Apart from producing many Ph.Ds (about 27) in the domain of English and Education, he has undertaken and completed 14 research projects which were funded (more than Rs. 25 lakhs) by many high profile organisations. The Vice-Chancellor has a wide variety of publications (up to 94) and research articles (more than 30) to his credit. He has authored / edited / translated / co-authored 16 books in the field of English and Education.

At Alagappa University, each department organizes events for Soft Skill Development, Career Capsules, and Student Well-being. The Alagappa University Study Circle organizes programs for Soft Skill Development by inviting accomplished persons to groom them. It also has its own Placement Cell, Career Guidance and Counseling Cell, Coaching Capsule for entry into various Services, Coaching for NET/SET examinations, Technical and Academic Writing, Remedial coaching for SC/ST/OBC/ Minority students, etc. While DEEP club and QUICK Cell address the English and ‘Quantics’ Skills of Students, the course on ‘Preparation for Competitive Examinations’ prepares students for their respective careers. Furthermore, it also conducts periodical mock-tests and interviews.
