Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (PSA) formerly known as Politeknik Shah Alam is the 8th polytechnic established under the World Bank Fund. In the year 1994, the polytechnic was constructed on an area of 112 acres of land area in Shah Alam, Selangor Malaysia and began its operation in year 1997.
PSA possess six academic departments that comprises of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Commerce, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Department of General Studies offering quality courses through professional and well-trained staff. PSA offers various academic programs at the bachelor’s level, advanced diploma, diploma, and also certificate levels. Also, PSA offers affordable course fees where the tuition fees are subsidized by the government for the local students.
Some of notable programs that are recently being offered to the international students are Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Medical), Diploma in Civil Engineering, and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Medical) program is designed to cover a broad discipline in the field of electronic engineering with specialization in medical electronics. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering provides broad-based and diverse engineering training in areas such as materials science, solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, instrumentation and control, product and system design and manufacturing. Diploma in Civil Engineering provides knowledge, skills, and attitude to adapt to new technology in civil engineering related to environmental restrictions, occupational safety and health, the construction industry and infrastructure development. All the programs listed has been accredited by Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).
PSA is known for its strategic location where it is located at the center of Shah Alam, Selangor industrial hub, one of the most important and biggest industrial communities in the nation that offers sound industrial training and job opportunities. The campus is located in close vicinity to the KTM commuter train station, bus station, Rapid KL bus service as well as taxi service for students’ convenience and comfort for reliable public transport services.
It is the mission of PSA to emerge as a higher learning institution with expertise in the field of biomedical equipment, thus this prompts the establishment of Centre of Medical Electronic Technology (CMET). Development plan for CMET is divided into three main phases: Construction and setting up of a biomedical calibration center, running programs to enhance local expertise and the adoption of research and innovation strategies to contribute to the nation towards achieving the goal of high income nation. The lab also has been granted Certified by Department of Standard Malaysia as MS ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited Calibration Laboratory.

Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah promotes racial and religious diversity such as its students’ population is from states all over the country and of different ethnicities and religions and this promotes social interaction that would enrich the students’ life experience.
About the Leader
Dr Norhayati binti Ibrahim, is The Deputy Director (Academic) of the institute. She has made important contributions and is still working hard for the Institute. She has played a significant role in incubating innovations and in driving translational research, contributing to the public good in the widest possible sense. She has contributed to the society through the pursuit of education, learning, and research at the best level of excellence. She believes that investment in higher education should be seen as a form of investment in the public good.
Major Achievements and Accolades
PSA has achieved various landmarks throughout its glorious journey to success. In May 2014, it was conferred Gold Award for Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC). Apart from that, PSA has achieved SIRIM QAS International for Quality Management System MS ISO 9001:2008. The institute has also won numerous awards for its participation in local and international event and competition. They won two Gold Medals at International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva and received Special Award from King Abdul Aziz University, Saudi Arab. They also won three gold & one silver medals from International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX). PSA has also been awarded with one Best Award, two Gold, one silver & two bronze from Malaysia Technology Expo. Moreover, the institute has won 17 gold, 14 silver & 10 bronze from National Innovation and Invention Competition through Exhibition (iCompEx).

PSA inculcates technical skills among students that tremendously boost their employment opportunities in the industrial sector as more companies are looking for qualified skilled workers. The institute practices balanced theories and practical hands on learning process. Theories and practical aspects of learning are taught side-by-side so that students learn and pick up the skills swiftly to become better learners. As such, learning is always fun filled and lively. There is wide usage of the English language as a medium of instruction in classrooms to gear the students up for job requirements and be industry-ready. Apart from that, PSA believes that industrial experience will quantify the students’ capabilities to become a better skilled worker. Students are prepared for the challenging and competitive work environment by undergoing six months of industrial training to further enhance their skillset and broaden their perspective of a real job experience.
