The Chhattisgarh government has agreed to provide educational assistance to students who have lost their parents as a result of Covid-19.

The Chhattisgarh government decided on Thursday, May 13 to cover the costs of students’ education in the state. It has also agreed to start a scholarship programme known as the ‘Chhattisgarh Mahtari Dulara Yojana’.

Students in classes 1 to 8 will receive a stipend of Rs 500 per month from the Chhattisgarh administration, while students in classes 9 to 12 will receive a stipend of Rs 1000 per month. In addition, the scheme applies to both government and private schools in the state of Chhattisgarh.

“The state government has agreed to launch Chhattisgarh Mahtari Dulara Yojana for children who are orphaned due to covid-19,” according to an official statement from the Chhattisgarh government. “Children studying in both Government and private schools will be eligible for this form, and the government will also finance education for children who have lost the family’s breadwinner due to covid-19.”

The Chhattisgarh government launched a scheme on Thursday that prioritises entry to medium schools and funds schooling for students whose families have missed a breadwinner due to covid.

Earlier this week, the governments of Jammu and Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh agreed to assist students who have lost their parents owing to covid in their respective states by offering educational scholarships.
