Established in 1992, the Institute of Hotel Management(IHM), Gwalior is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. Originally instituted as Food Craft Institute in 1987, it was upgraded to an IHM later in 1992. The institute aims to consistently upgrade the quality of learning opportunities to its students and to groom them in line with the needs of the industry. Achieving the same, currently, more than 3000 students have graduated with a diploma or degree in Hotel Management and Hospitality and Hotel Administration from this institution working in India and abroad.  Ultimately, IHM Gwalior is the most preferred institute in central India for the hospitality students to study and for the industry to recruit the talent from. Students learn the leadership quality which is essential for the hospitality sector.

About the Principal

Leading the institute is the Principal, Dr. M.K. Dash. He is a very talented man and holds numerous degrees; Ph.D. (Management), M.B.A (Human Resource), M.A (Sociology), B. Sc (Physics), C.H.E (A.H.M.A), D.T.S & D.O.T. He is certified as QLF (Qualified Learning Facilitator) from EHL, Switzerland. Leveraging an experience of over 25 years and two years industrial experience, he has also been the training and placement in charge of the school. He has attended many national and international seminar/conferences both in India and abroad. Presented many papers nationally and contributed chapters in many published books.

The Curriculum Programs

IHM offers three-year B.Sc.in Hospitality & Hotel Administration and one-year Diploma Program in Food Production. Additionally, the ancillary courses included in the institute are; Hunar Se Rozgar Tak, Entrepreneurship programmes, House Wives Training, Short Term Training Programmes, and Mid-day meal programme. Using the robust curriculum, the institute has been able to place alumni of this institute incompetent positions across India and abroad. As far as exposure programs and practical knowledge are concerned, the college conducts field trips, organized in nearby Milk production unit SANCHI, Modern Bakery and Advanced Training Center (hotel attached to IHM Gwalior) respectively. Many inter IHM competitions and intra IHM competitions are planned too to identify the potentiality of the students.

After the course, the students can opt for commercial hotels of various star category, IRCTC, Airlines, Out Door Catering Business, Defence Catering Services, Consultancy business, Institutional Catering – Navoday Vidyalaya, Sainik School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hospital Catering Services, QSRs, Fast Food outlets, retail sectors and many more.

Campus Life at IHM

A spacious campus life awaits at IHM for the aspiring hotel management candidates. The campus has well-trained staff members (QLF and CLF qualified), well designed laboratories, regular theory, and practical classes, air-conditioned auditorium, confectionary specially designed to involve in academic excellence, recently renovated and upgraded few departments such as an air condition auditorium which has 300 seating capacity, new advance training bakery with modern equipments, cold rooms, upgraded quantity training kitchen.

Further, hostel accommodation is provided to 180 boys and 60 girls. Adjoining them are the Staff quarters to the principal, wardens (boys and girls respectively) and few faculties within the campus. 24*7 security is also provided with CCTV cameras actively placed in the college building, classrooms, hostel corridors, lobby area (college building, hostel boy and girl), and main gate. For sports activities, the institute has excellent sports facilities for basketball, football, volleyball, and cricket and indoor badminton games for girls in the hostel.

In terms of extra curriculum activities, the institute conducts Paryatan Parv, Hindi Pakhwada, Swachhata Hi Sewa programmes, counseling the school coordinators for increasing admission in our programme and Swachhta Action plan at Tourists sites by conducting Nukkad Natak and distributing gift and pamphlets to increase awareness among them. Ek bharat Shreshth Bharat programme regarding the food festivals of north east states unites the culture and cuisine under one roof.

Outside of educational activities, the institute offers:

Education for Tomorrow

The institute will continue to provide the best of education in hotel management. In the near future, the institute will focus on safe energy initiative therefore; solar panels are installed in both the Girls and Boys hostels. This helps in the availability of electricity during a power cut off, solar geysers during winter provides hot water. It plans to add LED lights in the streetlights along with few solar lights in the college campus, an extension of the main building to accommodate more students is on the anvil, high placement record, and industrial training in reputed hotels across the country. Its aforementioned Advance Training Center will be used for commercial purpose in the near future.
