KLE Academy of Higher Education & Research (KAHER) is placed in category ‘A’ by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and re-accredited at the ‘A’ level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in the second cycle. Being the center of excellence, KAHER has been positioned as the 3rd best university at state level among the universities in Karnataka, by Karnataka State Universities Ranking Framework (K-SURF), 14th rank among all Indian universities under teaching learning & resources (TLR) category, and 5th best medical university among deemed-to-be-universities as per the India Today-MDRA (Marketing & Development Research Associates, New Delhi). KAHER has also bagged 3rd rank amongst the cleanest higher education institution and university in India for promoting hygiene and cleanliness under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences was established in the year 1987 focusing on the goal of developing proficient and qualified nursing graduates. The KAHER Institute of Nursing Sciences currently runs Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care (NPCC) with an intake of 10 seats, M.Sc (Nursing) with an intake of 25 seats (5 seats in each specialty like Medical Surgical Nursing, Child Health Nursing, OBG Nursing, Community Health Nursing and Mental Health Nursing), B.Sc (Nursing) with an intake of 100 seats, P.B.B.Sc (Nursing) with an intake of 50 seats, GNM with an intake of 100 seats.

The institute has been ranked as one of The Top 10 Promising Nursing Colleges in India for the year 2017 by the Higher Education Review Magazine.

The students gain rich clinical experience in the own parent hospital i.e. KLES Dr.Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC with 2400 bed strength and 256 ICU beds accredited with NABH safe ‘I’ & NABL accredited laboratories, KLES Belgaum Cancer Hospital & KLES Centenary Charitable Hospital. They also get good exposure in Community Rural Health Nursing Postings at three Primary Health Centres (Kinaye, Vantmuri & Handignur), two Urban Health Centres (Rukmini Nagar & Ashok Nagar) adopted by KLES Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belagavi.

The institute boasts of some of the best facilities to promote comprehensive teaching and learning. The students get to utilize best of infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities like well-equipped ventilated classrooms with LCDs. Students have access to the library, which has more than 9000 books and 14 journals along with digital library. The state of art laboratories like Nursing Foundation Lab with world class simulators and mannequins, Child Health Nursing Lab with NICU set up and models, Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG) Nursing lab with advanced mannequins, OSCE/OSPE stations, and Community Health Nursing Lab with models and village set up assist the students to gain practical knowledge and apply the skills in the clinical area.

About KLE Society

Karnataka Lingayat Education Society was established in 1916 by seven dedicated teachers – the “Saptarshis” or Seven Seers – with the starting of an Anglo-Vernacular School.

The Erudite Chancellor

The Chancellor of KAHER, Belagavi is Dr. Prabhakar B. Kore. He has been the Chairman of Karnataka Lingayat Education Society (KLES) for the past 34 years. Dr. Prabhakar B. Kore has a very versatile personality and his diverse interests have seen him taking up varied roles in the fields of politics, education, agriculture, co-operative endeavor, and community building. Under his able leadership, KLE Society runs 262 institutions, in which 16000 dedicated and motivated faculty is serving and over 1,25,000 students have enrolled for various courses ranging from kindergarten to post-doctoral courses, in traditional, technical, and medical educational institutions.

Noteworthy Accreditations and Collaborations

The institute is recognized and accredited by apex bodies like Indian Nursing Council, Karnataka State Nursing Council, Govt. of Karnataka, and University Grants Commission (UGC). It has collaborated with University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK to strengthen nursing education and research through a grant from British Council under the UK India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI). The grant was provided for enhancing midwifery and neonatal care through capacity building of midwifery lecturers. Students from School of Health Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK regularly visit KAHER for elective placements in midwifery under this collaboration.

Significant Achievements

Throughout its illustrious journey, KAHER has achieved numerous remarkable landmarks. The institute has signed MoUs with Southern Cross University, Australia; Chitwan Medical College, Institute of Nursing Chitwan, Nepal; and Debre Berhan University, Ethiopia for elective placement of students. Many of the faculties are registered for Ph.D in nursing. Students of KAHER have won prizes in various inter and intra university competitions. They have participated in many student parliaments, NSS camps organized by NSS, and have won the prizes in sports and cultural events in state level SNA activities.

KAHER endeavors to provide exceptional career opportunities to the students. The placement cell consistently seeks builds communication and cordial relationship with the top recruiters and arranges for occasional visits. They maintain tie-ups with ace hospitals and healthcare organizations by conducting orientation programs. The career placement cell conducts regular activity with entrepreneurs of renowned organizations like Apollo groups and Naipunnya INTL (Endorse UK Jobs). They conduct career guidance sessions for final year students. Moreover, campus interview was conducted by Apollo group of hospitals and KLES’s Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC, Belagavi.

The existence of active placement and career guidance cell further assists each student to acquire reputable job opportunities in India or abroad. The students are regularly informed about various openings in government and private sectors alike. Successful graduates of the institute are spread all over the world in the countries like USA, UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, and so on.

With the aim of placing the students in good organizations, the institute starts taking initiative for their placements from very first year itself. They also conduct finishing school for building the confidence of final year students. Moreover, in pursuance of eradicating the fear of facing placement process, the management takes various initiatives like grooming and training, training programmes for IELTS and competitive exams and so on. Alumni guest lectures are organized to bring awareness in the students regarding changing trends in nurse’s recruitment abroad.
