Modern Artifact of the ‘Agricultural Station’

A Model ‘Agriculture Station’ has been established in the campus of KITS with the technical support of Dr. Avri Bar Zur, the former Agricultural Attache’ to the Israeli Embassy in India with a vision to help in academic, research, demonstration and extension programmes of the School of Agriculture and Biosciences. The Research Station intended to help in introducing precision agriculture in the region will make use of modem tools like Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Digital Media, Remote Sensing and GIS in the farming sector. Precision farming will be practised both in the poly-houses and the open field. ‘Technology of Tomorrow’ and ‘Interdisciplinary Research’ are the keywords of this initiative.

In addition, with the support of advanced technology and collaboration with the Israeli scientists, a High Tech Poly house facility has been established in Karunya. The poly house is one of the ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities built for Precision Agriculture and High Tech Horticulture and has been used for growing crops in a naturally ventilated, climate controlled environment unlike the crops grown in the open fields.

The institute has provided around 100 ha of land for establishing farms and other related facilities for the agricultural programmes in the campus. The Department of Agriculture offers B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture, B.Sc (Hons) Horticulture and B.Tech Agricultural Engineering programmes. The programmes are designed to develop skills and explore career areas in agriculture, horticulture and agricultural engineering and are tailor-made to fit into the curriculum and syllabi prescribed by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR).
