‘Natural High’ is being implemented in all Carlisle schools after a positive pilot at William Howard School earlier this year.
This has been made possible by money provided by the Cumbria Office of Police and Crime Commissioner and a recent collaboration between David Graham, the program’s founder, Carlisle Youth Zone, and Cumbria Constabulary.
David has spoken to over One million young people throughout the UK through the Natural High Schools Programme with this compelling citizenship message, with the cooperation of numerous police agencies, community safety partnerships, local education authorities, and councils, in over 4000 schools.
“The program’s goal is to raise awareness of positive alternatives to a fake high through drugs or destructive anti-social behaviour,” a representative stated. It encourages young people to reject anti-social behaviour and obtain a “Natural High” by exploiting their own unique abilities through a 90-minute presentation built around David’s self-penned song “Natural High.” The project promotes peer education so that viewers may learn crucial material while interacting and having fun, and it uses music and competitions to deliver critical citizenship themes delivered by a positive role model.
“Unique to the Carlisle project, youth will be made aware of chances to find their talents and abilities through local nonprofit Carlisle Youth Zone (CYZ). Six nights a week, CYZ is open and now receives about 1000 weekly visitors from young people in the city. The Natural High initiative and CYZ share the goal of assisting youth in developing on a personal, social, and academic level. Sports, arts, music, theatre, cooking, dancing, Young Leaders and enterprise initiatives, regular off-site and residential trips, and a mentorship scheme are just a few of the options that CYZ provide young people.
