Pharmaceutical education is a vast, dynamic professional education for the development of the individual as well as the country, with a view to safeguard public health. The pharmaceutical companies had realised long ago that just selling traditional medicines will not produce the desired growth nor even sustain competitiveness. This led to a fundamental change known as moving ‘beyond the pill’ which arose from two main realisations: The Pharma-IoT concepts involving digitization of medical products; and related care processes using smart connected medical devices and IT services (web, mobile, apps, etc.) during drug development, patient care, and clinical trials.
With this shift in overall approach, the field of pharma got a whole lot more interesting. The outcomes of Pharma-IoT in development and clinical trials can employ combinations of advanced technologies and services to create totally new kinds of diseases treatment possibilities. Fortunately, our next pick for ‘The 10 Most leading Institutes in Pharmacy, 2021’ is an institute which, with the combination of proficient faculty, extensive industry connect, and multitudes of resources, has produced the crème de la crème of pharmaceutical professionals. Prof Samit Ray (Chancellor, Adamas University, Kolkata) is a pioneer of modern education in West Bengal stretching from school to university to competitive coaching, his work straddles multiple areas. It is a fruit of three and half decades of commitment, focus, hard work and love. His vision is that of producing polished dazzling diamonds symbolizing industry-ready professionals from uncut diamonds symbolizing students without proper employability skills, be the main backbone of the university. His continuous support in pursuing excellence in academics, research and international relations is the major strength of the institution.

During the initial phase, the institute had a handful of faculty members and the advisory board members, and their major challenge was to obtain the conditional approval from the regulatory body of pharmacy education in India: The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). The PCI offers its affiliation only after completion of four academic years to an institute under Section 12.
However, during the initial years the Institute should have the conditional approval of PCI to run the course. SOPT has obtained the conditional approval of PCI each year since its initiation and finally achieved the regulatory compliance under section 12 after completing its fourth academic year.
The most encouraging fact is that since the birth of SOPT, it got 100% response from the students and all its seats were filled up as per the eligibility criteria.
