An Institution with a Rich Legacy

Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) was established in 1954 in the world famous holy temple town of Tirupati. It spreads across a campus of about 700 acres, with a scenic and pleasant hill view. The University stands as a testimony to the wisdom and foresight of two great visionaries, Late Sri Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, the then Chief Minister of Andhra and Late Sri NeelamSanjiva Reddy, to cater the educational needs and aspirations of the people of Rayalaseema area. The founder of this University has rightly coined the motto, ‘Wisdom lies in proper perspective for it’. The University has grown excellently over the past 63 years as a leading institute of higher learning under the able and committed leadership of following             Vice-Chancellors starting from Prof. S. Govindarajulu to the present Vice-Chancellor                  Dr. Avula Damodaram.

The University has rapidly evolved in the field of higher education & research and has established itself as one of the best Universities of the country. It was recently reaccredited by NAAC with A+ grade. SVU secured 122 Rank among the top 300 Universities and stood 1st in Andhra Pradesh by QS BRICS University Rankings – 2018; it secured 223rd rank in the entire Asian Continent and First rank in Southern States of India in QS Asian University Rankings – 2018. It also secured 42nd rank in NIRF-2017 in the University rankings. These rankings speak for SVU’s impressive research output which has crossed the mark of excellence as per Scopus h-index of 48.

Providing Quality Education

SVU aims at providing the best-possible education to its students and enhancing their skills and abilities in every field through innovative teaching procedures, training, research and consultancy, thus, satiating the needs of the industry and the society. It intends to train and produce dedicated students in various fields like Science and Technology, Humanities, Commerce, Law and Management in such a way that they can serve the nation and world in the 21st century.

The University is not only ambitious about solidifying the existing curriculum, but is also planning to introduce new courses like Cyber Security, Space Sciences, Energy Management, Event Management, Interior Design, Retail Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

SVU has taken various initiatives for promoting the quality of education in the institute, including:

• Collaboration with TCS and AP State Skill Development Corporation and conducted a Ten-Days Special Intensive Training Programme on IT, Aptitude, Technical Training, HR & Arithmetic Reasoning.
• Initiative to start a new ‘Cyber Security’ course for its students.
• With the aim of enhancing the technical and IT skills of the students, SVU conducted a series of meetings with Sri JA ChowdaryGaru to establish International Institute of Digital Technologies (IIDT) at the campus.
• The institution has also initiated collaboration for the development of Educational Ecosystem in Tirupati (T4I) with Shri J.A. Chowdary and other academic institutions and industries near Tirupati.
• It has also inaugurated an Entrepreneurship Development Cell.
• For the first time, SVU-FICCI NKFH (National Knowledge Functional Hub) has been established for collaborating with the industry.

The Guiding Light of SVU

SVU proceeds on its glorious journey under the guidance and tutelage of Dr. Avula Damodaram, the Vice Chancellor of the institute who has devoted 2 ½ decades of his service tenure in performing distinguished services for the University, as a Professor, Head of the Department, Vice Principal, Director and so on. On the basis of his scholarly and administrative achievements and other multifarious services, Dr. Damodaram has been honoured with a number of awards like “Millenium Plaques of Honour Award”, “Higher Education Leadership Award” and  “Eminent Engineer of the Year – 2016” .

Dr. Damodaran established the Directorate of Research and Development, the Directorate of University International Relations, Alumni Relations along with the Directorate of Academic Audit to strengthen the academic, affiliation procedures and to ensure the overall quality improvement of the affiliated colleges of SVU.

He created the Directorate of “Empowerment of Women and Grievances” to promote a culture of respect, equality, inclusive, Women’s right and welfare for female gender and to solve the grievances of women community; and the Directorate of “Industry Institute Interaction, Placement and Training” to strengthen the interrelationship between Industries and University and to handle all aspects of placements to students.

He has also contributed in creating the Directorate of Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship; strengthened the UG & PG Courses (curriculum) by implementing Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the academic year 2016 at SVU and its affiliated colleges; initiated automation in the Academic and Examination branches from the A.Y. 2016 and provided Wi-Fi connectivity in the entire campus. Biometric facility with Aadhar linkage and installation of CC cameras is in progress.

Financial Aids and Extra-Curricular Activities

SVU students belonging to socially and economically backward communities and those who are economically poor get State and Central Government Welfare Scholarships. Fellowships and Scholarships are offered to research students of the campus by the University and also by the UGC, CSIR, DAE, ICMR, ISRO, ICAR, ICPR, ICHR, ICSSR, DST, DRDO, SRNS and Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan. Major research projects are also funded by several funding agencies like DBT, DRDO, ISRO, CSIR, ICMR, MOEF, etc.

SVU also encourages its students to participate in an array of extra-curricular activities like art and crafts, music, dance, etc. It also organizes and has organized various events like Youth Festival Celebrations, Training Programmes and is known for having organized events and conferences like Google-Stanford University project on topic- IIII &PT Cell With APSSDC in the year 31-10-2016 to 31-10-2017; Innovations by Design on the topic Innovation Society AP.Govt in the year 15-16th March 2017; Indian Economic Association conference in Dec 2016, and so on.  SVU had also organised the prestigious 104th Indian Science Congress from 3-7 Jan 2017. The Prime Minister of India inaugurated the Congress and about 15000 delegates participated in it.

Career Opportunities

SVU’s placement cell liaisons with industries to arrange campus selections and also makes arrangements for imparting preparatory coaching to students. The cell is headed by a Professor, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor in association with a committee consisting of a faculty member from each department and is supported by office assistants. This is a student-supported activity. Coaching classes are conducted for all India Services, State Level services, Banks and Railways competitive examinations. Major companies like Yahoo!, Samsung, ZOHO Corporation, Yatra.com, Juno Online, TCS, Wipro Technologies, etc have visited the campus for placements.
