On April 13th, NETSCOUT published its latest Threat Intelligence Report – one of the most comprehensive sources of global DDoS attack traffic. The Threat Intelligence Report dissects the flux of cybercriminal activity by industry, including the education sector, which was in the top 10 for the most targeted industries in latter half of 2020. The report indicated that there were over 18,000 attacks against the education industry globally in that period.
Additionally, researchers identified DDoS activity at not only the higher education level, but also at secondary school level, with some students likely participating to disrupt e-learning during the pandemic.
NETSCOUT, the leading global guard against disruptions in network availability and application performance, recorded a record-breaking 10 million plus DDoS attacks in the last six months alone. This indicates somewhat of a trend for the cyberactivity for the year 2020. In addition, cybercriminals exploited vulnerabilities as revealed by findings which were exposed by massive shifts in internet usage, generating a 20% year-over-year increase in attack frequency in 2020.
