Engineering is one of the most sought-after professional careers in India. Every year millions of engineering aspirants appear for competitive exams to get admission in their dream college. However, even after clearing the exam not all are financially capable to give wings to their dreams. There are plenty of meritorious students, who even after making it to the final list of admission do not find the courage to fill their admission forms. ONGC Scholarship for SC/ST and OBC Students

India’s top energy company- Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited is not only fulfilling the energy needs of India but also extending its whole hearted support to fulfil the dreams of country’s needy students. It has opened a scholarship to support the financial needs of students belonging to SC/ST and OBC community. Interestingly, 50% of the total scholarship programs are reserved for girl students.

Students from the general category who come from a very weaker section of the society can also reap the benefits of this scholarship.

Students who secure minimum 60% in their 12th examination and fall under the age bracket of 30 years can apply for this scheme.  In order to assist students from different regions, this scholarship program picks student from all geography.

After fulfilling the criteria and requirements laid by the apex body of ONGC, any student can receive a grant of INR 48,000 per year during the whole four year curriculum.

Merit-cum-Means Based Scholarships

This scholarship is provided by Ministry of Minority Affairs, a wing of central Government of India to support the dreams of pursuing engineering to the students coming from minority communities. Students belong to Muslim, Parsi, Jain, and Christian communities who want to pursue advanced professional and technical courses can reap its benefit.

Ministry of Minority Affairs provides more than 20,000 engineering scholarships each year to target extremely poor but meritorious students hailing from said communities.

Moreover, students have to pass the required competitive exam to take an admission in a recognized college or university in order to take the benefit of this scholarship. Also, the applicant’s family income should not be more than 2.5 lakhs annually.

Fees are paid directly to the managing authority of the college or university. It does not get handed over to the students in any case. The amount of scholarship is 10,000 and if the student pursues course from IIT or NIT then full fees get compensated under this program.

TATA Scholarship for Engineering Students

TATA is not only a household name in India but its success saga is cherished by many in the entire world. From making salt to software it has touched the life of millions and showcased its sheer strength. This company also does not lag behind when it comes to doing any philanthropic work and one such work is their commitment to give wings to meritorious students to fly high in professional career. This group has founded one trust- TATA Education and Development Trust to provide financial assistance to the engineering aspirants.

This group has tie-up with New York based Cornell University to provide scholarship to 20 engineering aspirants each year. The group has created a $ 25 Million endowment fund which any meritorious student can avail. Students from any community irrespective of their financial status can apply for this scholarship.

The only two conditions required here are that:

  • The applicant must be an Indian.
  • The applicant has to fight the competitive exam and must have an offer in hand from Cornell University to pursue engineering education at their campus.

Larsen and Turbo (L&T) Built India Scholarship

This financial grant program is meant to serve the needs of students who want to pursue master’s course in engineering. Students with an exceptional academic track record who want to pursue M. Tech in construction technology and management course from IIT Madras and IIT Delhi can use this scholarship.

Every year 40 students get selected from the pan India level for this program and receive a monthly assistance of INR 9,000 during the whole two year course. Further, studies reflect students who availed this scholarship have been placed in reputed organizations across varied verticals.

OP Jindal Engineer and Management Scholarship Test (OP JEMS)

This program is founded by OP Jindal group to harness the power of young talent in the right direction. The aim behind this scheme is to assist students in nurturing vital traits that are taught in ace institutions while developing entrepreneurial excellence and innovation. In this program, each year, 100 meritorious students get selected from different engineering and management colleges in India to support their financial needs.

OP JEMS conducts an online test and the candidates who come on the top of the stack receive a massive amount of INR 80,000 per annum to support their education.

There are plenty of other scholarships are also available which one can reap benefit from, but the nature of the scheme, eligibility criteria, and aid amount may vary from one scholarship to another. North South Foundation Scholarship, Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST), Adobe India Women-in-Technology Scholarship, and Aditya Birla Scholarship among other are such scholarships.
