Legal education and legal know-how is essential for every citizen. India, at present, is said to be a young country owing to the fact that about 50% of it’s population is below 25 years of age. The legal values sowed at this stage are sure to result into citizens who know their law very well, respect it and can even help others with it. While we, at The Knowledge Review, do understand that law might not be a career interest for many, however, for those who would love to carve their name on the Indian legal industry, UnitedWorld School of Law (UWSL) is the perfect place to begin the journey.

Nestled in a serene and secure campus of 35 acres amidst nature, in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, UWSL is a statutory institute recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI)* and affiliated to Karnavati University. The institute’s mission is to empower the youth with the knowledge of law and enable them to be professionally successful, socially sensitive and contribute in the national development.

Fulfilling the Learning Needs

UnitedWorld School of Law offers BBA LL.B (Hons.), a unique 5 years integrated degree programme. From the academic year 2020-2021 it proposes to offer BA LL.B (Hons.) subject to approval of Bar Council of India.

If offers 4 subjects of Specialisation of which the students can select any one:

  • Intellectual Property Law
  • International Law
  • Criminal Law

It also offers One year Post Graduate Degree Programme LL.M with specialization in:

  • Corporate Law
  • Criminal Law And Security Law

  • Human Rights Law

UWSL’s Research Degree programme include:

  • PhD in Law
  • PhD in Interdisciplinary fields related to law, humanities, social sciences and other allied areas.

UWSL provides students with with well-   furnished student residences, amazing mess facility, well stocked libraries along with world class amenities such as of a cafeteria, gym, playground, salon, ATM, stationary, departmental store etc. The campus is fully equipped with facilities that provide the necessary infrastructure to deliver courses effectively. It even has moot court & legal aid clinic within the campus for students.

A great vision needs visionaries who have the power to dream and the mettle to translate those dreams in reality. Such it the management team at UnitedWorld School of Law. In the nascent stage, it was challenging to tap the right scholarship in the field of law as well as optimally utilize the extant resources available within Gujarat. However, diligent and hard work saw the institute through the tough days.

The team is headed by the Dean, Dr. Nachiketa Mittal who is a  former Assistant Registrar (Research) Supreme Court of India and experienced faculty of National Law University Odisha  and alumni of NLSIU, Bengaluru. Dr. Mittal is heading UWSL and contributing by his diverse experience of National Law Universities.

He is aptly supported by Dr. Malay Patel (Assistant Dean)who is shaping cross cultural learning by his experience of post doctorate in the university of Warsaw, Poland.

Prof. Dr. Debarati Halder adds value to the team by contributing through her strong research and publication acumen.

Promoting Interest, Facilitating Development

UnitedWorld School of Law is committed to its practical approach and therefore, provides hands-on learning experience to its students. The pedagogy at the institute seeks to create leaders in the Indian legal system and society. Through focused learning opportunities, its students dwell in the realm of impactful ideas, both inside and outside classroom.  It adapts a 30% theoretical & 70% practical teaching methodology which includes Moot Courts, Mock Trials & Trial Advocacy Programmes, Court Visits for understanding court procedures. It also provides Professional Experience through Internships in primer Law firms, Corporate houses and Supreme Court and High Courts.

To make the students ready for challenging national and international job market, they are exposed to credit courses from foreign Scholars and Professors, law firm professionals, eminent lawyers of the Supreme Court and established social entrepreneurs. Students at UWSL are also exposed to field visits through the Legal Services Clinic of the law school to understand the linkages between law and its practical application. These activities provide an all-round development to the students.

UnitedWorld School of Law has earned its fame in a short span. The feathers in its cap include:

  • UWSL Legal Aid Cell was selected as one of the top 10 Legal Aid Cell in the state of Gujarat by the Legal Aid Award Competition organized by Knowledgesteez.com at New Delhi in 2017.
  • UWSL won the “IP Emerging Campus of the year (Legal) – 2018” for having contribution in spreading the awareness in the field of IP at IP Fest 2018 organized by IP Promotion Outreach Foundation (IPPO), Ahmedabad.
  • Organized Certificate Course on “European Law and Philosophy: Issue and Perspective” by Prof. Dr. Krystian Antoni Complak – Wroclaw University – Poland in 2019.
  • Organized National Seminar on “Right to Privacy and Artificial Intelligence” speakers included Prof. Dr. Krishan Mahajan, former Additional Registrar Supreme Court of India as a Key Note Speaker and Partner, PWC, Lawyers from The Law Point Mumbai, Khaitan & Co. Delhi, Y.J. Trivedi & Co. Ahmedabad, Professor of Law Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur.
  • Special Module Course on LGBTQ Rights in 2019.
  • Workshop on Child Rights in Association with UNICEF in 2019.

Future Prospects

In addition to classroom teaching, Unitedworld School of Law involves its students in various research and extension programmes, including Internships at the end of each semester, for better understanding of the subject matter. The management team adds, “Throughout the span of five years, our students get exposure to various National and International Conferences, Workshops, Seminars, Moot Court Competitions, Mock Trials, Trial Advocacy, Parliamentary Debate Competitions, Empirical Research Studies, Internships at prominent offices of advocates and corporate sectors.” Looking ahead to the new decade, the institute aims to develop cross cultural exchange of scholarship with the foreign universities and to strengthen the research in legal education within Gujarat and contribute nationally.
