Wilmington College

To educate, inspire and prepare each student for a life of service and success.

Located in the prime place of southwest Ohio, Wilmington College is known for its extraordinary core values embracing “diversity”, and is even less than one hour from the major metropolitan areas of Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus. To fulfill its mission of educating, inspiring and preparing students for life and success, the college provides a high quality undergraduate and graduate educational environment shaped by the traditions of the liberal arts, career preparation and the distinctive practices of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

By offering academic programs, practical experience and co-curricular activities in a variety of settings to students from diverse backgrounds, the College leads students to gain an awareness of the world, to acquire knowledge of career and vocation and to seek truth and social justice. In keeping with the rich heritage of the liberal arts, the College seeks to educate the whole person – intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual – in ways that foster critical thinking, reflection, the free exchange of ideas, open inquiry, respect for all persons and a desire for lifelong learning.

The liberal arts are integrated with career preparation to help students develop the knowledge and skills to succeed in a career or further education. As an academic community, Wilmington College is rooted in historic Quaker values, also known as testimonies, which include integrity, service, stewardship, equality, peace and social justice and respect for all persons. These historic testimonies motivate those who learn and work at the College to make positive contributions to their professions and their communities.

Extraordinary Infrastructure and Facilities that Motivates Sports-Minded Students

Wilmington College features contiguous athletic facilities that include gymnasiums, a natatorium, cross country course and multi-use fields. A signature facility relates directly to WC’s athletics and sports academic programs. The new Center for Sport Sciences features an athletic training clinic on par with or exceeding that of many large universities and professional sports teams, as well as other academic areas and indoor and outdoor turf fields. An especially unique aspect of this facility is the partnership WC has with four on-site medical clinics within the CSS, including ones for physical therapy, orthopedics/sports medicine, chiropractic care, and imaging/sports medicine. Not only do WC’s student-athletes and members of the area community utilize these on-site services, but many sport science students gain clinical experience at these facilities.

Offers Well-Recognized Sports Academic Programs

Wilmington College showcases a vibrant sport sciences area. Its Sports Management program features such hands-on learning opportunities for students as working at the Super Bowl and NCAA Football Championship. Various renowned educational media publication has ranked this program as the number one Sports Management Program in the nation. The college’s athletic training program is nationally recognized for excellence and features alumni who serve as head athletic trainers for, among others, the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Royals. The experts of the college express to initiate a Master of Athletic Training degree program within two years in the coming future. The College has a fairly new but vibrant program in exercise science and coaching is WC’s largest minor.

The College’s hallmark for hands-on learning and leadership development opportunities is manifested throughout campus, but especially in its sport sciences and athletics programs. Faculty, staff and coaches provide students with extraordinary access with the expectation students will emerge from their time at WC not only competent in classroom and book knowledge, but also having used that knowledge in experiential settings and, thus, ready to take on the challenges of modern society and make their world a better place.

In addition to financial aid, the institute offers opportunities for campus employment.  Wilmington College has a robust Career Services office that not only assists students in securing internships and sharing employment opportunities, but it also helps them develop successful strategies and the intricacies of building effective resumes and cover letters that best match available positions.

About the President

Dr. James M. Reynolds became Wilmington College’s 18th president in 2012 and his extraordinary capabilities made him also The Students’ President. He is intensely interested in the institution providing hands-on learning opportunities that complement what is taught in the classroom. Also, he sees as paramount the faculty/staff-student relationship as students strive for excellence while engaging in the often life-transforming experience in education at WC. Most interestingly, he and his wife, Sue, annually host numerous dinners at their home with small groups of first year students as a means for getting to know about them, their hopes and their dreams. They also enjoy seeing students excel in the co-curricular activities in which they’re passionate — like sports, music, theatre, advocacy and service.

Institute’s Social Presence

Wilmington College is known for its diverse culture, and it not provides counsel, direction and motivation for minority students but also heads special programming such as Black History Month and Women’s History Month. The administrators of this section reach out to the college’s growing Latino population and provide support for its LGBT, Jewish and Native American students. On the top on that, Wilmington College hosts a number of international students, including the ones from Sweden, Norway, Costa Rica, Brazil, and Czech Republic, and provides them facilities based on their needs.
