College of St. Joseph is a small, independent nonprofit Catholic college that educates men and women of varied faiths and backgrounds for lives on continuing personal and professional growth, intellectual development, and service to the community. Founded in 1956, the college campus sits on 117 idyllic wooded acres located in the heart of Vermont’s Green Mountains. The campus is home to two dorms, Roncalli and Medaille, as well as St. Joseph Hall, Tuttle Student Center, and an Athletic Center, which includes athletic and exercise facilities.
The college prides itself on a family-like campus environment and unparalleled faculty-student interaction. Their diverse community includes students from across the country, international students, and highly-qualified instructors and staff.
Scholarly Courses:
College of St. Joseph offers more than 20 undergraduate programs, including Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Health Science, Psychology, Radiologic Sciences, Sports Management, Accounting, Educational Studies, and much more.
The College offers graduate degree programs across various verticals like: Education with specializations in Elementary Education, General Education, Reading, Secondary Education English, Secondary Education Social Studies, Special Education, and a Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification. Also, an online course in Educational Leadership; Psychology & Human Services with specialization in Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counseling, Clinical Mental Health, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, School Counseling, and a Graduate Certificate in Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling; and Business with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
The College has become dually affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, joining the newly formed Northeast Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NIAC). With the new affiliation, the College is adding eSports and Bowling beginning fall 2017.
Larwrence Jensen, President
College of St. Joseph’s sixth president Lawrence Jensen is a retired healthcare executive and well-known community leader in the Rutland Region.
Mr. Jensen has chaired and served on many boards in the area. He is currently chairman of the James Bowse Health Trust and a Rutland Regional Medical Center board member. He recently served as Chairman of the Rutland City Police Commission and has been on the boards of Vermont Public Radio, Killington Music Festival, and Rutland Mental Health.
During his career, Mr. Jensen served at RRMC as Vice President for Corporate Development from 1998 to 2008 and Rutland Health Foundation Major Gifts Officer from 2008 to 2010. He was also Vice President and Controller for Killington Ski Area.
Mr. Jensen graduated from The State University of New York at Geneseo with a BA in English in 1966 and completed his MBA in 1989 at the University of Vermont.
Student opportunities:
College of St. Joseph has grown its athletics offerings over the past three years, and now offers varsity programs in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, baseball, men’s golf, women’s volleyball, cheerleading and dance, bowling, and eSports.
College of St. Joseph students are provided several opportunities to gain hands-on career experience. Students are able to complete internships in their prospective fields at local businesses and organizations for college credit. Many of their instructors have had careers outside of academics, and were respected leaders in various industries. Students are guided by a faculty of eminent personalitiesincluding former lawyers, international auditors, advertising managers, and much more.
Awards & Recognitions:
The college was one of just two Vermont schools named as top 100 “Best Bang for the Buck” schools by Washington Monthly in both 2015 and 2016. CSJ was also ranked in the top 15 percent in The Economist’s college rankings for 2015.
The College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC-CIHE), the State of Vermont Department of Education, the Council of Applied Master’s Programs in Psychology and the Board of Psychological Examiners of Vermont.

This scholarship for full-time undergraduate students is worth up to $65,500 over four years and incorporates a commitment to academic curiosity, personal and professional growth, and community service.
