Ceredigion County Council’s education services have been highly praised by Estyn, the education and training inspectorate for Wales, for providing consistent, high-quality education and demonstrating a strong track record in maintaining and improving standards. The report, published last week, highlighted the council’s robust vision for school improvement, with a clear focus on enhancing learning, teaching quality, and student well-being.
One of the key strengths identified by Estyn was Ceredigion’s commitment to promoting the Welsh language, with several examples of excellence in the provision and practices that support Welsh language education. The report also noted that the authority effectively supports schools in improving teaching and leadership, helping to foster a productive educational environment.
A significant achievement of the local authority’s education services is its proactive approach to promoting positive behavior and attendance in schools. Estyn commended the council for its valuable efforts to ensure pupils remain engaged with their education. Additionally, the ability of Ceredigion schools to meet the needs of pupils with additional learning requirements was recognized as another area of strength.
Elen James, Ceredigion’s Chief Education Officer, expressed her satisfaction with the findings, stating, “This report from Estyn is extremely positive, and I am grateful to the inspectors for their thorough work.” She highlighted the collaborative relationship between the council and local schools, along with the range of specialist services offered to support pupils’ diverse learning needs.
Cllr Wyn Thomas, Ceredigion’s Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning, and Skills, also expressed his appreciation for the dedication of education staff. “This report is a testament to the perseverance, support, and effective collaboration between everyone involved in the educational journey of every child and young person in Ceredigion,” he said.
While the report was overwhelmingly positive, two areas for improvement were noted. The council will focus on further improving school attendance and enhancing its self-evaluation and planning processes.
Ceredigion County Council’s education services continue to demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, high-quality learning environment for all students.
