Chairperson of Odisha Skill Development Authority Urges Development of Crucial Skills

Empowering Entrepreneurs!

At a CxO meet organised by ORMAS, Bagchi spoke about creating an interface between placement implementation agencies and sector skill councils, as part of the DDU-GKY initiative.

Subroto Bagchi, Chairperson of Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA), urged project partners and employers to provide decent wages, living conditions, and support entrepreneurial growth by collaborating with the World Skill Centre to bring out the human aspect of the skilling system in Odisha.

Sushil Lohani, the Principal Secretary of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water department, highlighted the value of having a professionally-managed training programme at the PIA level. He further urged employers to consider this as a social responsibility, which would enhance their brand value and image.

Since its launch in 2014, DDU-GKY in Odisha has successfully trained a total of 2,17,183 candidates, with 1,50,705 of them placed in various states and companies – including 250 candidates in foreign countries. In the 2022-23 fiscal year alone, DDU-GKY has trained an impressive 15,000 candidates and placed 10,000 in jobs. We are proud of our strong track record of placing people in meaningful and rewarding work!

 

Close to 50 employers, 60 Panchayati Institutions and Associations (PIAs) and 30 State Social Welfare Committees (SSCs) joined the meet that was inaugurated by Minister for Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Pradip Amat. Usha Padhee, the Principal Secretary of the Department of Social Development and Technical Education (SD&TE) and ORMAS Chief Executive Officer Guha Poonam T were also present to address the gathering. The meet was a great success, providing a platform for productive dialogue between employers, PIAs and SSCs.
