Chatsworth International School: Enlightening Minds with Education and Inspiration

The School provides a holistic learning experience for students through a three-programme International Baccalaureate (IB) education. Chatsworth values each individual and empowers them to find their purpose in the wider world. The mission of Chatsworth International School is to Inspire, Educate & Enlighten.

Chatsworth International School was founded in 1995 with the brilliant motif of enlightening young minds with flames of education and wisdom.  The school had a humble beginning with only five students, which has grown to more than 800 at two campuses. Both campuses of the school offer an international curriculum and attract students from diverse nationalities. Notwithstanding this, Chatsworth International School has built and maintained a small school ethos and takes pride in providing a nurturing and trusting environment where students are given the space to explore, learn and grow.

Today, the two international campuses are a part of the Chatsworth Group of Schools, which also includes two local preschools registered with the Early Childhood Development Agency in Singapore. Chatsworth Preschool operates in two locations and runs the local curriculum for children aged between 18 months and 6 years, preparing them for primary education in Singapore mainstream schools. Chatsworth International School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is Edutrust certified.

Chatsworth International Campuses

Chatsworth International School has two campuses providing International Baccalaureate (IB) education. They are Orchard and Bukit Timah.

Orchard Campus

Chatsworth moved from Upper Serangoon to Orchard campus in 1998, the original site of Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, situated on a heritage street right off Orchard Road in the heart of Singapore. What used to be Chatsworth main campus for K-13 students for two decades is now a primary only campus for K-6 (Grade 5) students from August this year (2018).

Orchard campus has undergone renovation works that see new innovative and quality play structures (not one but three) being installed with EPDM flooring. The play equipment is designed to foster imaginative and physical play and each structure offer challenge for K-6 students. There is also a new rubberized running track around the perimeter of the basketball court for greater outdoor play.

A dedicated Discovery Centre and Maker Space that provide facilities for the sciences, cooking, design, and construction. Inventing, experimentation, problem solving and creating are integral processes of the inquiry cycle and the Primary Years Programme. Equipped with stoves, ovens, workbenches, tools and a laboratory, the Discovery Centre aims to stimulate and inspire the creativity and experimentation of its students.

Bukit Timah Campus

Located amidst lush greenery and next to Singapore’s breath-taking nature reserve, Chatsworth Bukit Timah is the latest addition to Chatsworth Group of Schools. Bukit Timah campus opened up its door in August this year (2018) to its pioneering batch of students, staff, and parents. It is the original site of German European School Singapore. With a comfortable capacity of 850 students, Chatsworth Bukit Timah caters to students from Kindergarten to Year 13 (Grade 12). Its wide-ranging facilities include a huge indoor sports hall, swimming pool, basketball court, open amphitheatre, football pitch, drama black box and more.

At Chatsworth, the facilities and programs are continually improved for advanced learning and development of its students.

The Pre-School Campuses- where elegance lies

Formerly known as Chatsworth Kindergarten, Chatsworth Preschool offers local curriculum for ages 18 months to 6 years, preparing them for primary education in Singapore mainstream schools.

 Piccadilly Campus

The Piccadilly campus has the exclusive position of being Chatsworth Group of Schools’ first local kindergarten campus which opened in 2003. The campus comprises two buildings and has a total of ten state-of-the-art classrooms and ample outdoor spaces, within a beautiful and quiet residential estate in Seletar Aerospace Hub. The campus offers full/half programmes for Playgroup and 3 hour programme for Pre-Nursery/ Nursery and 4 hour programme for Kindergarten One and Two.

Bedok Campus

Opened in October 2012, the Preschool Bedok campus is the fourth campus belonging to the Chatsworth Group of Schools. It is located within the same building as the Singapore Post Office – Simpang Bedok Branch. The campus has a total of 4 classrooms and an outdoor play area equipped with a playground, sand pit, gardening patch and bike play. Bedok campus currently offers full/half day programmes (Pre-Nursery to Kindergarten Two) for children from 3 to 6 years old.

Life at Chatsworth

The friendly and nurturing school environment of  Chatsworth provides a right at home feel. Chatsworth values and respects each individual, no matter which part of the world they hail from. Very often, it is heard that ‘everyone knows everyone at Chatsworth’ and this is in part owing to the size of the school but not without the camaraderie that has been fostered amongst the community.

New students will be assigned a buddy on their first school day; a fellow student from homeroom who acts as a guide and support to the new student over the first few days at school. “We are here to help students assimilate into the Chatsworth community as quickly as they can”, says Sherwood.

Within Chatsworth, all students and staff are divided into 3 Houses: Changi, Sentosa and Raffles. Each student who joins Chatsworth will be assigned to a House, with siblings assigned to the same one. Houses are split vertically throughout the school so each House will have Primary, Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary students within it. The house system is used to promote school spirit within all areas of the school.

CCAs/ECAs

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) and External Curricular Activities (ECAs) are important parts of student life. These activities provide opportunities for students to participate in team-based sports, discover new passions, develop social skills, play together and, most importantly, have fun!

Athletics

Chatsworth International School is an active member of the ACSIS (Athletic Conference Singapore International Schools). Through ACSIS, students from Year 3 through Year 13 have the opportunity to compete in basketball, badminton, soccer, cross country running, swimming, ultimate frisbee, touch rugby and netball across the three sporting seasons of each academic year

Arts

Art at Chatsworth is engaging, vibrant and inspiring! The CIS students actively flesh their talents and love for arts in varied ways, from Arts Nights and participation in the IN Art Exhibition at the Australian High Commission, from IB Diploma Visual Arts Exhibition to various school productions and dance competitions etc Art gallery visits and music field-trips are also organized to further broaden students’ learning.

“Words of Trust”

The thing that sets Chatsworth apart is the way that everyone knows everyone due to its small size. Whenever I am walking down a corridor or looking out of a window on the campus, I can always identify at least several people with whom I am very well acquainted, and that will always make Chatsworth special to me.” – Max Issel, Year 11

Chatsworth has truly been one of the best decisions I ever made. It offered an encouraging learning environment, provided me with exposure and gave me some lifelong friends!” – Anjali Goyal, former Chatsworth scholar of IB Diploma Programme
