That will make a lawyer of you quicker than any other way.” With the same vision, Christ Acadamy Institute of Law (CAIL) emphasizes on seeking knowledge through legal literature as the foundation stone for becoming a successful lawyer

Located in Bengaluru, CAIL is one of the leading centers for global excellence in legal education. CAIL provides three major courses for the graduate level. It has five years of integrated courses of law viz B.A. LL.B, B.Com. LL. B and B.B.A. LL.B.

The Incredible Personalities of CAIL

The Founder of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, is the source of inspiration for Christ Academy Institute of Law. The institute has taken up the noble endeavors to provide quality education to its students irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

Currently, Fr. Dr. Davis Panadan Varghese CMI is the Principal of CAIL. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Philosophy, Economics, and Law. His postgraduate qualifications include LL.M. He also has an M Phil, Licentiate in Canon Law from POI Rome and a Ph.D. degree from NLSLU Bangalore. Fr. Dr. Davis has served as a Director of the Post Graduate Centre at DVK for the year 2009 to 2012 and as a Director of DVK Research Centre for the year 2012 – 2017.

Apart from Fr. Dr. Davis PV exceptional services, he has made the university proud by publishing 14 law books within three years. Among these Fr. Dr. Davis PV is the author of 9 books. All these are books are in accordance with the law syllabus of the University.

Moot Court – A Real Court Experience

In today’s age, it is essential that the students get hands-on experience before starting a career as a lawyer. Hence the institute gives an opportunity to its students in the form of ‘Moot Court’. This gives the students, a one-of-a-kind opportunity, to compete with one another by arguing cases in front of experts in the field.

In return, students perfect the art of research which is the key to become a successful lawyer. It also enhances analytical skills as well as their writing ability. This helps them to get hands-on experience to improve their power of logical reasoning, rhetorical skills, and public speaking skills.

Library

For a lawyer, it is important that he is factually correct. Reading helps a person increase his or her knowledge. Hence, CAIL has a huge library with a large collection of books and periodicals. Students can refer to legal articles that deal with a wide range of subjects on both national and international matters.

Apart from this, students generally access the library as it has a good stock of all prescribed and reference books on major and minor courses offered in the curriculum. Students also have easy access to the books, periodicals, and all online journals round the clock through its digital library services.

Along with excellent academic facilities, CAIL also involves its students in various extra-curricular activities. The campus includes football, basketball, tennis and badminton courts. The students have represented the college in various inter-college competitions.

CAIL also provides on-campus accommodation so that students do not have to look for accommodation somewhere else. The hostel for girls and boys are separated. The hostels have well-trained housekeeping and maintenance staff and get instant medical assistance.

To encourage students, CAIL also provides scholarships to its students. This eventually helps students financially and boosts performance. CAIL also provides internships to its students as it emphasizes on getting hands-on exposure. These internships help students to recognize their weaknesses and strengths.

Future Endeavors

CAIL aims to become a prominent institute that provides a valuable education in the field of law. It is planning on to add post-graduate (LL. M.) and research (Ph. D.) programs. The institute is working towards the goal to emerge as a center of excellence in both teaching and research. Another interesting area CAIL wants to focus on is village lawyering.

In the coming years, CAIL is planning to include a  ‘semester abroad module’. It will benefit both, the international students and CAIL students. The proposed design of the module will give a chance for students from abroad to spend a semester in the CAIL campus. Also, the bridge courses which are in the line will provide programs in language, Indian society, the legal system, etc for those who intend to do a full-time law program at CAIL. It also intends to set up a law firm in the campus, so that the students get practice in the afternoon.
