Key Background:

Conestoga College has officially become a member of Academics Without Borders (AWB), a Canadian network of post-secondary institutions dedicated to assisting low and middle-income countries in strengthening their educational systems. This collaboration will allow Conestoga faculty and staff to engage in volunteer partnership opportunities with institutions worldwide, leveraging AWB’s extensive global network.

Through its membership, Conestoga will gain access to unique opportunities to propose and participate in projects aimed at enhancing the capacity of post-secondary institutions in developing countries. These initiatives are intended to drive development and improve quality of life by expanding access to education and fostering community growth.

Paula Gouveia, Vice President of Academics at Conestoga College, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “I am so pleased that Conestoga is joining Academics Without Borders. Their mission to promote development through higher education aligns perfectly with the college’s commitment to enhancing the prosperity and well-being of the communities we serve through education.”

AWB’s executive director, Nancy Gallini, also welcomed Conestoga to the network, emphasizing the value of its faculty and staff’s expertise in supporting AWB’s mission. She noted that the partnership not only strengthens Conestoga’s international profile but also provides valuable resources to support its ongoing global efforts.

This membership offers Conestoga College new opportunities to contribute to global education initiatives, ultimately enriching the learning experiences of its students while making a meaningful impact on communities both locally and abroad.
