Education Industry

Industry Webinar featuring Leaders from the Education Sector come together with Parent group, CBSE Board to discuss strategies, tactics, concerns as Government lifts restrictions across states to reopen schools slowly.

NEW DELHI/ August 31, 2021: As the Government slowly lifts restrictions of the lockdown and allows schools, colleges, and educational institutes, various parties still have several concerns about the safety of the same for their children, students, and staff. Leaders from the Education Industry came together recently to discuss the importance, the various aspects, concerns, and strategies to do this safely.

The session saw participation from industry stalwarts like Dr.Muffazal Lakdawala, Well-Known Surgeon; Dr.Emmanuel Joseph, Director, CBSE India; Dr.Swati Popat Vats, President, Early Childhood Association; Dr. Ashok Pandey, Director, Ahlcon group of schools; Neha Kare Kanabar, Founder, UNIMO and Mr. Alok Sharma, CEO, Shycocan Corporation. The session was a phenomenal success with almost 1200 registrations from a large cross-section of education professionals, including teachers and more.

The experts quoted the dramatic impact of shutting down schools leading to an almost 70-80% loss of learning especially in the subjects of Math and Language. How the United Nations have declared this as a Covid Education Crisis with almost 168 million children missing from schools. Children with special needs and those from underprivileged backgrounds not having access to computers or the internet not being able to even access online learning. The resultant rise in child labor, and worse. Even for those with access to online schools, excessive screen time and isolation have caused several mental health-related issues.

Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala, Well-Known Surgeon, said that “This is the longest period ever when schools have remained shut globally, more than 17 months. While we may have done this to protect our children physically, we now have enough documents that prove how it has negatively affected them mentally. Anxiety, depression, and more. For the younger ones where attention is also a challenge, to expect them to sit in front of a screen for hours is unreasonable. We NEED to reopen schools slowly and use technology to protect them in areas where they may not always be supervised out of the classroom – like playgrounds, washrooms.”

Dr. Swati Popat Vats, Founder of the Poddar Jumbo Kids chain of schools and President of the Early Childhood Association added, “We have to take baby steps to begin. Kids will be kids. But safety must be ensured, not just as a word, but also as a feeling and an action plan/protocol. We must take advantage of the lull period – between the 2nd and a potential 3rd way to reopen in phased manners. Schools, not school buses. Training them and staff on how to take air gulps, besides sanitizing, the correct way of washing hands are basics. But also padding that with technology – like I would personally like to invest in at least 3 devices of the Shycocan.”

Commenting on the same Mr. Alok Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, Shycocan Corporation, said that “The virus has taken away children’s childhoods. My daughter has missed out on the magic of campus life in college for almost 2 years due to the lockdown. There is as much learning that happens on playgrounds as in classrooms. But given that children aren’t yet vaccinated, often asymptomatic, they carry the risk of being super-spreaders. We must give them back their childhoods along with the safety and security of being able to hug a friend without having to worry. With Shycocan, the world’s 1st virus attenuation device, we are hoping to help achieve that as it disables the entire family of Coronavirus and all its variants, mutations with up to 99.9% efficacy in enclosed spaces.”

The webinar also saw polls on the audience’s perception of the risks involved, inputs from the parent body on their expectations from schools, the need for shared responsibilities, and more.
