Educators Offered Free Drug Training in Worcestershire

As part of its effort, Hope UK is offering free drug education training for all educators, youth workers, and family support staff based throughout the county of Worcestershire. The effort is aimed at providing educators with a greater depth in the changing pattern of drug use, thereby enhancing their educational practice.

The training programme contains a mix of challenging learning that includes quizzes, case studies, and interactive group discussion-all founded on best practice, evidence-based drug education. There is interaction and mutual sharing of ideas to create a productive learning environment where people can really apply what they have learned. A family support participant reflected: “I had misconceptions over what I thought could be considered best practice drug education. Knowing what is effective in terms of interventions and education is very useful.”.

The overall focus of the training is on the embedding of ordinary practices within schools while underlining teaching living skills and stress management as very important components of drug prevention strategies. Educators are tasked with developing proactive approaches in directing young people away from drugs and responding appropriately to various scenarios that may emerge.

The initiative is supported by Worcestershire County Council and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia. The project will reduce the risk to a great extent under which young people fall vulnerable to drugs, alcohol, and other related criminal activities. Besides general information relating to various substances, the training area consists of signs of drug use and effective prevention interventions.

Participants’ comments have been overwhelmingly positive. One head of year described, “Teaching is a ‘full-on’ daily grind, and this was superb two hours of my day.” This replicates the value that educators assign to the program not only in terms of professional development but also for its likely contribution to student wellbeing.

From this perspective, this program can be referred to as a preventive move that would protect the children of Worcestershire from the evil of drugs in schools. The training session will try to develop the skill of placing themselves and nurturing an environment which will guide the kids to sound decision-making processes while dealing with the complexities of substance use.
