A Pew Research Center diversity gap in STEM study found out that though American workforce contains 17% Hispanic peoples, only 8% out of them work in STEM fields. Similarly, Black adults make 11% of the total workforce, but only 9% out of those are STEM workers. And there had not been change in that percentage of Black workforce in STEM since 2016.
In a mission to close this widening gap, recently Purdue University in a partnership with Office of Naval Research (ONR) of US and minority serving institutions consortium containing University of Puerto Rico and Tuskegee University has offered to help such underserved students to overcome many challenges they face while entering into STEM fields.
