The Guwahati branch of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has introduced an online Bachelor of Science program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence where students from all over the nation can enroll without taking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in order to give aspirants a chance to study at the prestigious IITs.

There are numerous entry and exit points for the four-year undergraduate curriculum, which was established in collaboration with the online learning platform Coursera.

Programming languages like Python and Java will be covered in the course, along with knowledge and insight on cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence, deep learning, natural language processing, big data, and cloud computing.

Professor Parameswar K. Iyer, the acting director of IIT Guwahati, told ThePrint that this programme, which complies with National Education Policy 2020, is intended to give students who lose out on admission by a few marks a chance.

He said, “We have tried everything to increase the number of students coming to an IIT, right from expanding seats to increasing the number of institutes. Everything has been tried. But given the sheer size of our nation and talent pool, we need better solutions.”

The college will provide proper assessments to prevent any tarnishing of the standing and credibility of an IIT degree, the professor added.

Students who took math in classes 11 and 12 will be at a distinct advantage when applying.

But there will also be a chance for people who did not study the topic in higher secondary school to participate in this program.
