Established in 1996, the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) is the first private engineering institute in the state of J&K. It is ranked in top 100 T-Schools in the country and at 77th in the list of private institutions and 93rd in the combined list of Government and private institutions by DataQuest Magazine. MIET is also the only NAAC A grade accredited technical institution in the state of J&K. It is a part of the Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) group of institutions, which was established in 1936 as the first private educational enterprise in the State of J&K. Today, MIER group serves the educational needs of over thirty-five hundred learners from the pre-school to the post-graduation levels.
Research and Development has received the highest attention at MIET. Its faculty members have filed fifteen patents at the Indian Patents and Trademarks office. Furthermore, the Center for Software Development has incubated two IT products besides developing three mobile applications. Special initiatives of the institute such as the Center for Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (CRIE) aim to engage students with the right potential in research-oriented innovative projects for developing advanced skills. Five projects from CRIE are on the verge of being commercialized, while one faculty-led startup building advanced analytics solutions for academia has already garnered its first paying customers.
MIET alumni occupy high positions in some of the most reputed organizations in the industry including Amazon, HP, IBM, EMC, and many more. Additionally, the institute has tied with University of Missouri Kansas-City (UMKC), USA allowing its students to pursue MS programs at UMKC under a GRE-waiver clause with guaranteed fifty percent tuition fee waiver.
The Tech-Savvy Director
Besides being a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor Ankur Gupta is also the Director of MIET. Prior to joining the academia, he worked at HP as a Technical Team Lead, developing software in the network management and e-commerce domains.
Under his leadership, the institute has become the first Indian institute to deploy a cloud-based Quality Analytics Framework called Performance Insight 360°, institutionalizing a culture of quality and performance. The software is made with the initiative “what cannot be measured cannot be improved”. Performance Insights 360° measures tracks and benchmarks the performance of each stakeholder on various performance parameters.
Dr. Gupta is a recipient of the AICTE’s Career Award for Young Teachers. Furthermore, he is the Managing Editor for International Journal and a senior member of ACM, IEEE alongside a life member of the Computer Society of India.
