Background
NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Open University Malaysia (OUM) to explore new ways to use artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The partnership is expected to bring together digital technology and open learning to make education more practical and accessible.
The agreement was signed in Fuzhou, China, by senior representatives of both organizations. They will prioritize the implementation of AI and emerging technology to enhance the teaching strategies, online materials, and learning experiences of learners.
Under the deal, NetDragon and OUM will create AI-powered learning materials and add smart features to OUM’s online platform. These features include a psychological wellness dashboard and an AI-based profiling system to help teachers understand students’ needs and emotions better.
The two sides also plan to use blockchain to create secure digital certificates and micro-credentials. They will establish a joint “AI Research and Innovation Laboratory” to focus on gamified learning and the ethical applications of AI in education.
In addition, OUM and NetDragon will design short, skill-based, and TVET programs to help students enhance their job opportunities. The collaboration will also promote lifelong learning and engage in international discussions on the future of open education.
NetDragon Vice Chairman Dr. Simon Leung said the partnership marks a key step in applying AI to global education. OUM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Tajudin Md Ninggal said the partnership will help the university stay ahead in digital and open learning innovation.
