People’s University was conferred as India’s Best University for promoting research in July 2018. People’s University was established by the Madhya Pradesh legislature Madhya Pradesh Act (No.18 of 2011) – People’s University Bhopal, as a State Private University.
About the People’s College of Nursing & Research Centre (PCNS&RC)
Sarvajanik Jankalyan Parmarthik Nyas established the institution on 22 July 2006 with the objective to provide quality nursing education to nurses who will demonstrate critical thinking, promote, and strengthen nursing research and contribute towards service of mankind. Since 2011, People’s College of Nursing and Research Centre is the constituent unit of People’s University. The institution has a highly experienced faculty. The center is recognized and affiliated by Indian Nursing Council New Delhi, M.P. Nurses Registration Council, and is ISO 9001: 2008 Certified.
Courses Offered
The University provides the best of education in nursing. It offers:
- Sc Nursing (Community Health Nursing, Obstetric & Gynecological Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing) for the duration of 2 years
- Sc. Nursing for the duration of 4 years
- Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) for the duration of 2 years
- Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery for the duration of 3 years
JHPIEGO (Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics) an international non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University has established a skill development center at People’s College of Nursing and Research Centre in 2017. PCN& RC is the pioneer institute to start this program. Skill training is imparted to students undergoing all the courses. The institution is proud of its Alumni Association established since March 2012. The institution has well established NCC since 2008, NSS since 2009, Red Ribbon Club a globally recognized symbol for HIV/AIDS awareness since 2010. The college established a Student Nurse Association in 2006. All students are a member of SNA. SNA works to provide an opportunity for personal, intellectual, professional and social growth of its members. The college has a good record of nearly all students being well-placed in the best hospitals in India and abroad.
The Campus Facilities
The People’s University campus is spread over 69.19 acres in Bhopal. It is credited to be Central India’s largest single-campus University. Tree-lined avenues and lush lawns dotted with beautiful flowering shrubs soothe the eye and create an ideal learning ambiance. People’s University is one of the few Indian universities, with state-of-the-art computing resources and network across the campus. University extends and facilitates the Scholarship and Financial Aid Scheme for the students taking admission at People’s University.
The libraries in each constituent unit house a rich collection of text and reference books, journals, magazines, audio/videos, CD-ROMs, research reports and Digital Library etc. in all areas and branches of study in all disciplines. Book Bank facility is provided to the student for exploring their knowledge. Digital Library enables the students and staff to search the availability, request and reserve various books and other reference material available in the libraries at the comfort of their houses. LCD projectors, Desk Top etc. are attached in classes. The University auditoriums are centrally air-conditioned with a fully soundproof setup and equipped with the latest technology for all types of audio/video presentations. A number of small digital auditoriums are also available for seminars, meetings, workshops etc. It has its own stadium with facilities for games like Volleyball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, and Cricket. People’s University regularly conducts Intra and Inter College tournaments for respective games. It has a fully functional department headed by Sports Officer to look after the sports activities. It also has a spacious and state-of-the-art gym well equipped with modern facilities. Qualified gym instructors are available to train students.

Suresh N. Vijaywargia, Chancellor of People’s University is an avid entrepreneur. He has been Honored with Rashtriya Rattan Award; Millennium 2000 Sammaan and International Gold Star Millenium Award. He is a man with incredible business acumen; he propelled his capabilities and established himself as a successful leading businessman in Bhopal partnering business relationships with the most affluent business houses in India and abroad. Suresh N. Vijaywargia formed a charitable non-profitable public trust ‘Sarvajanik Jankalyan Parmarthik Nyas’ with the prime objective of “Nurturing Humanity through Health and Educational Excellence”. People’s University journey began with this objective when SJPN decided to establish educational institutes as a center for excellence.

Dr. Rajesh Kapur, Scientist and a former Senior Adviser to Government of India has widely traveled and has been a member of various Inter-Governmental committees with active participation in FAO-WHO meetings in India and abroad. He has been a member of the Governing Council and Scientific Advisory Committees/Research Councils of DBT and CSIR Institutions.
