Purdue University has achieved a notable ranking in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, solidifying its standing as one of the world’s premier academic institutions. The university has been ranked No. 33 in the United States and No. 86 globally, a significant improvement from its previous positions of No. 40 in the U.S. and No. 127 worldwide. This ascent in the rankings reflects Purdue’s growing global reputation.

Among public universities in the United States, Purdue secured the No. 14 spot, and among public land-grant universities, it ranked No. 9. Purdue stands out as the sole university from Indiana to make it into the top 100 universities globally.

Purdue President Mung Chiang emphasized that the university’s daily efforts are not solely focused on rankings but noted that rankings reflect its performance relative to higher education peers in the state and the nation. He expressed Purdue’s commitment to maintaining excellence and continuous improvement.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are published annually and have been compiled since 2004. The 2024 edition includes a substantial methodological update, incorporating new measures assessing research quality and patents. The rankings are based on 18 calibrated indicators that gauge an institution’s performance.

Patrick J. Wolfe, Purdue’s provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity, highlighted the university’s ongoing progress and credited faculty, students, and graduates for their significant contributions to the university’s rise in rankings.

Purdue has also received strong rankings in other assessments, including a top 10 placement among U.S. public universities in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University rankings, and it recently achieved its highest-ever ranking in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best College rankings for undergraduate programs. Additionally, Purdue has received recognition for innovation and value, further solidifying its position as a leading institution in higher education.
