The Chancellor of SDM University is Poojya Shri D Veerendra Heggade. He is also the President of SDM Educational Society. Shri D Veerendra Heggade is a visionary leader with a dream to start a Centre of Excellence in Medical Education and Healthcare for the people of the North Karnataka Region at an affordable cost. He has been the Dharmadhikari (Head) of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala for more than five decades, which controls several temples, including the famous Shree Manjunatheshwara Temple at Dharmasthala. Shri D Veerendra Heggade is a multidimensional individual, reformer, educationist, philosopher, and philanthropist. He has contributed over five decades to religion, education, social service, economic and cultural development.
