As such, the focus, while in a higher educational institute, shouldn’t be just earning a degree but on the outlook that progressively views at things and a mindset that is ready to adapt with time.

Believing in the practical approach of learning, Shri Vaishnav Institute of Architecture (SVIA), Indore, Madhya Pradesh focuses on 360-degree development of students. Approved by Council of Architecture, New Delhi, SVIA believes in imparting practical knowledge along with the theoretical background. It doesn’t restrict learning to the classrooms but centres it around studios and labs.

The Institute at a Glance

Established as a constituent of Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya (SVVV), SVIA, with a forward-looking, technologically-driven optimism, has been following an out of box approach in designing the syllabus. It has been curated with a vision of the developments in the next 8-10 years. SVIA aims to reduce the gap between profession and education and therefore the syllabus is reviewed & revised every year to keeps students updated with the new technology and advancements in the field of architecture.

The Institute of Architecture is truly unique and known for this approach. The undergraduate program at SVIA allows the students to learn, bringing a plurality of views and interests. Practising professionals and academicians work together for educating the students at SVIA. Students are appreciated to create their own work environment through installations in the campus under the guidance of SVIA faculty. The annual exhibition Vedika held at SVIA gives a platform to the students for displaying their works. Here, frequent skill enhancing seminars and workshops are organized for exposure and development of the students.

Offering Quality Education

The Institute offers a 5-year B. Arch Program and 4-year programs in B.Des in Interior Design, Product Design, Graphics and Animation and B.Plan at the Graduation level. The Postgraduate program M.Plan has duration of 2-years. The institute also offers dual degrees, B.Des+ M.Des in (Interior Design, Product Design, Graphics and Animation.

A team of knowledgeable, enthusiastic and dedicated faculty, a collaborative team of academicians and professionals, work together for educating students at SVIA. The teachers support and mentor individual students in developing their skills and in keeping them updated with the developments in the field of architecture. They train them on the latest construction technology and materials and how to extract values from traditions and transforming them in today’s context.

The teaching pedagogy of SVIA is very intelligible and facile and fosters individual interests and abilities of the students. Study tours, site visits, seminars, workshops, out of the classroom learning and learning through experience are part of students life as budding architects for the overall exposure required for the profession of architecture which is always encouraged at SVIA.

Internship of one full semester in the fourth year in professional offices as a part of curriculum helps students in widening their exposure, increases their understanding and makes students learn implementation of academics in the profession. The teaching program focuses on imparting the understanding of the importance of environment responsive approach to development.

Exemplary Leadership

Dr. Upinder Dhar is Vice Chancellor of Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya. Earlier, he was Group Additional Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor – Academics, Amity University Uttar Pradesh (Noida); Founder Vice Chancellor of JK Lakshmipat University (Jaipur); Director – Institute of Management, Dean – Faculty of Management, and Dean – Faculty of Doctoral Studies and Research, Nirma University (Ahmedabad); Director – Prestige Institute of Management and Research (Indore); President – Prestige Group of Educational Institutions (Indore); Professor of Management at NITIE (Mumbai); and Reader at IMS-DAVV (Indore). He has conducted management and faculty development programs for the executives of major business houses and faculty members of academic institutions respectively. He has also been Guest Faculty at IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Trichy and IIT Roorkee. Besides undertaking consultancy assignments, he has authored/co-authored more than 700 publications. He has worked in various high powered committee constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, UGC and AICTE.

Driving Shri Vaishnav Institute of Architecture(SVIA) to greater heights is its Professor and Director Ar. Vishal Yardi an architect, academician and researcher with more than 20 years of experience. Till date, he has worked on more than 50 Architectural projects including coordination of industrial buildings and Commercial Mall at Kalyan. Other projects include residential, commercial and interiors including few turn key projects. He has conducted various seminars and workshops for the Architects, Engineers, and faculty members of academic institutions.  Construction quality control and Energy efficient buildings are areas of his interest. He has contributed many research papers in national and international conferences. He was part of ‘Global Enrichment symposium Malaysia where 21 Principals of Architecture colleges from India were invited for the event sponsored by Government of Malaysia and supported by the Council of Architecture.

Prof. Yardi has been on the Panel of Reviewers of several academic as well as professional  competitions. He has served on the Panel of Experts maintained by the SNDT University (Mumbai); and RGPV (Bhopal). He has also been a Member of the Indian Institute of Architects, Indian Institute of Interior Designers, Board of Studies SNDT University, Faculty of Studies and Academic Council of Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.

He has inspected several architectural institutes as a expert committee member appointed by Council of architecture. He has Worked as jury member for prestigious awards like ‘Architect of the year’ and “Best Dream House.”

A Resourceful Setup

The SVIA campus is equipped with all the amenities like modern library, computer labs, workshop areas, playgrounds, sports complex, auditorium, canteen and many more. Additionally, the campus is very well connected with the three major cities of Madhya Pradesh such as Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, where which people commute by the university conveyance facility daily.

For the future, an upcoming campus adjacent to the existing campus has been developed to take care of all the needs, being designed by the renowned Architectural firm CP Kukreja Architects, New Delhi.

SVVV is shortlisted by ‘ARIIA’ Atal Ranking of Institutes on Innovations Achievements with in top 50 in august 2020. The campus is visited by several renowned companies and architectural firms that pick up students and put them on a professional pathway across the globe. Additionally, the career/placement division department registers employers and posts job vacancies that are displayed on the online notice board, publishes news and schedules campus interviews.

Students can use these facilities for making applications to prospective employers while communicating with the University Placement division, and participating in on-campus/off-campus recruitment drives conducted by various corporate houses.

Promoting Education for All

The University provides free computer education to school children of rural areas through the PRAYATNA Group under the banner of Computer Engineering and Information Technology Department. It also delivers free training for designing pattern making and stitching by the Textile Department to girls and boys of nearby villages to encourage self-employment opportunity.

The University extends financial help to the economically weaker students through its sponsoring body, Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Trust as well as schemes from the State Government. The scholarships are as follows:

Merit Scholarships (Second Year Onwards) – The top 10% of the students, achieving a CGPA of 9.5 and above are awarded scholarship equivalent to 75% of the Tuition Fee. The next 10% of the students, scoring a CGPA of 8.5 and above but less than 9.5 are awarded scholarship equivalent to 50% of the Tuition Fee.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarships (Second Year Onwards)- Ten Merit-cum-Means scholarships are equivalent to 25% of the Tuition Fee which is awarded to the students, whose parental income is Rs. 3,00,000/- or less per annum. Additionally, they need to score a 7.5 and above but less than 8.5 in a program.

Growing through Collaborations

The university has developed collaborations with many renowned organizations to provide students with the much-needed industry exposure. It aims at enhancing the educational experience of the students and transforming them into furnished employable professionals. SVVV has signed MOU for technical collaboration with companies including IBM Pvt. Ltd; Hanyang Univesity, Seoul, Korea; St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA;  Red Hat India, TCS and Impetus.
