Survey says 85% university students in India faced learning loss

Covid-19 has led to a learning loss for 85% of students in India. The survey determined the main cause for this loss is digital divide, slow governance, pre-existing capacity deficits, longer lockdown than most counties, and weak online teaching/learning content.

Compared to other G7 countries, India has an estimated learning loss of 40-60 percent. Due to extended lockdowns and increasing cases of Delta variant of Covid-19 it is becoming more difficult to prevent this loss.

Additionally, the survey finds that it may take 3 years to repair this gap, which is painful looking at a blunt of the digital divide among the rural areas and disadvantaged communities.
