Female hockey players at Taunton School are celebrating their best hockey year ever after a
string of successes across a number of age groups.
Girls across all age groups have been on top of their game throughout this year’s England
Hockey Schools Championships.
The T1 U14 team came 1st in the Somerset County Championships, while the U18 girls have
made it through to the T3 national quarter final. The U16s finished top five in the West (T3) and
the U13s were runners-up in the West Finals, making it through to the IAPS National Finals. The
U13 B team also had a successful season, winning all games except one.
The success was echoed by the indoor teams, with the U18 girls placing 2nd in Somerset and
making it through to the West Finals, while the U16 girls came 3rd in the county.
Julia Louw, captain of Taunton School’s first team, said: “It’s been a pleasure to captain the team
due to the effort that each individual has put in, always coming off the pitch knowing that they
have given it their all.
“The feeling of qualifying was incredible. This could not have happened without the support of
our coaches Mr Foweraker and Mrs Powell, who have both supported, trained and pushed us in
order to get this far.”
Elliot Foweraker, Director of Hockey at Taunton School, said: “This has been a great season for
the girls. There is lots of talent in the programme coming through and more to come.
“They have been working incredibly hard so it’s great that they’ve got to this level and are
reaping the rewards.”
Mr Foweraker has recently been awarded the International Hockey Federation Level 4
Certificate, the highest level coaching qualification in the world.
