NTPC Launches Girl Empowerment Mission in Assam

On Wednesday, NTPC, the country’s largest power producer, asserts that there will be a four-week-long empowerment programme for the economically deprived girls in Assam; GEM will train 40 minors in different skills.

Since 2018, the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) programme has been conducted by the power major across the country, and now it has been launched first time in Assam.

On Tuesday, the NTPC Executive Director (Bongaigaon Plant) Subrata Mandal rolled out the initiative and said the company is organizing the programme for the first time in assam to uplift the underprivileged girls.

He also added, “the company has shortlisted the 40 girls of 10-12 years. The programme has come a long way from the baseline survey, medical examination, registration process and finally in the school campus.”

Mandal also said that in 2018, NTPC initiated the GEM and contributed to the empowerment of 4,500 underprivileged girls in its project locations across the country.
