Post-independence, the pharmacy profession and education have undergone a sea change as a provider of healthcare services in India. Pharmacy profession has evolved from its conventional and traditional drug focused basis to an advanced patient focused basis over the years. This advancement in the role of pharmacist calls for them to be the part of the broader health care team working for providing better health care for the patients, thus contributing in achieving the global millennium development goals.
An institute that is providing pharmacy education while keeping the competence with the changing roles of a professional pharmacist is P. Wadhwani College of Pharmacy, Yavatmal (PWCOP). The college started offering Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm.) education in 1993 and Degree course in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) program in 1997 followed by post-graduate course (M.Pharm.) in 2006 in the subject Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Quality Assurance, & Pharmacology.
The college is recognized as a Centre for Ph.D. program by Sant Gadge baba (SGB) Amravati University and is presently known as one of the premier institutions affiliated to Amravati University. The college is also recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi, Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), and Directorate of Technical Education Mumbai.

The institution adheres to all quality measures in education to its students. No wonder then that many of the students of PWCOP easily get terms of imparting GPAT scholarships for pursuing higher education. Those who embark on higher education abroad, after their graduation from PWCOP, get selected in prestigious international universities of UK, USA and Australia, to name a few. Industries like Ranbaxy, Dr. Reddy’s, Sun Pharma and so on have a number of students from PWCOP working in various capacities.
The college has received significant financial assistance from CSIR, DST, ICMR, UGC, AICTE, and other funding agencies to carry out various research projects, organize national seminars, and modernize the laboratories. Workshops, quality improvement programs and seminars are timely organized to hone the skills of PG students and faculty with such financial support. The college publishes its own open access international journal ‘International Journal of Research in Pharmaceutical Technology’ for Pharmaceutical Scientists. The journal publishes research papers, reviews, commentaries and letters to the editor as well as special issues.

Minister for Transport and Self Employment, M. S. and Shri. Jagdish G. Wadhwani Chairman of Yavatmal Zilla Vikas Samiti Yavatmal.

The college provides platform for students to attain quality education and develop a multidimensional personality. An ‘Industry – Institute Partnership Cell’ has been established recently to ensure healthy and fruitful interaction with pharmaceutical industries. PWCOP has a placement cell that helps its graduates to get rewarding jobs in industries. The institute collaborates with Industries, Academic and Healthcare institutions for the promotion of research, exchange of information, to enhance placement opportunities for students and to provide opportunities and lifelong support to its alumni in recognition of their special relationship to the college. PWCOP is conducting various DST sponsored Entrepreneurship Development Programs in association with MITCON to promote various central government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Yojana, Start Up India and the concept of Make in India.
