With the objective of promoting the importance and value of education in an individual’s life, All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society (AISSMS) Polytechnic was established. It was founded by Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Scindia and the foundation stone was laid down by the Prince of Wales on the 19th of November 1921. The Institute believes in education being the basic foundation that students can use to achieve any goals that they aim towards. The students here are trained to become the leaders in whatever they choose to pursue as well as of the society. In 1994, AISSMS established the Polytechnic branch which is approved by the AICTE, New Delhi and recognized by the Government of Maharashtra. It also is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE), Mumbai. The Institute will soon be acquiring accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation for three of its courses i.e Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Engineering.
An Outline of the Infrastructural Provisions
The AISSMS Polytechnic ensures that every student’s hopes and aspirations are taken care of by providing them with the best of physical and academic facilities that will assist the students towards their own successful careers. AISSMS has a fully air conditioned computer facility, with a 100 high-end server systems, which both the students as well as faculty can utilize for research and other academic purposes. It contains softwares such as C, C++, Java, Assembly language, and Open Source Database Management System.
The workshop department is responsible for training the youngsters in the usage of various practices such as Machining, Welding, Blacksmith, Plastic Injection Molding, Carpentry, Fitting, Pattern Making and Foundry Workshop. The workshops also help the students in learning how to carry out any task associated with model preparation and machine attachments. The institute has two hostels for girls, which are named Jijabai and Tarabai after the two great women warriors, located in the heart of the city and within walking distance. It also has a canteen and mess facility, a gymnasium, a dispensary which provides healthcare facilities to the students and has a capacity of 20 beds.

The post –graduate courses are more or less the same but contain a more advanced curriculum, which comprises of Electrical Engineering: Power Electronics and Drives, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering: Microwaves, Mechanical Engineering: Automotive and Mechanical Engineering: Design.

The students of AISSMS are given various opportunities to participate in activities that can help enhance their academic skills. These include soft skill training, aptitude training, industrial visits; expert lectures by pioneers in the field, technical paper presentation and quiz competitions.
