Assam down town University (AdtU) was established through the Assam down town University Act, 2010 in the state of Assam, India in 2010. The university was established by the Down Town Charity Trust, which is promoted by Down Town Hospital Limited.It was established with the objective of bringing quality higher education to the north eastern region of India and its neighboring countries. In a short span of time, it has risen to become one of the top most universities in Assam attracting students not only from north east region, but also from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Africa.
Brilliant Educational and Infrastructural Facilities
The University aims to cater an academic diversity with professional needs to people of the region and the nation. With students from 20 Indian states and 5 Countries, AdtU is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse universities in the vicinity of Guwahati. AdtU currently has on its rolls more than 7000+ students and to provide them with quality education 300+ highly efficient faculty members are entrusted for the purpose.
The institute encompasses a large 60 acres campus with best-in-class infrastructure. Apart from adequate classrooms, laboratories and faculty rooms, the university has recreational and play areas for students with a football field, basketball court, badminton court, table tennis, and other indoor play areas at the hostels and different areas of the university.Understanding its commitment towards Clean and Green Campus initiative, AdtU has set up a 200 kWp Roof Top Solar PV power plant in the campus under MNRE-Govt. of India scheme. It also encourages rain water harvesting, solid and e-waste management, plantation drives, and other related initiatives among the stake holders to accomplish its aim of becoming a self-sustainable campus.
The university is equipped with seamless Wi-Fi network with more than 20 mbps line with multiple ISPs allowing students to be connected with the internet anytime, anywhere. AdtU has a very strong research base as well. Its research policy generates and supports a research culture among its faculties and students and leverages it for enriching and increasing the professional capability of the faculty members. The faculties of the university are involved in sustainability-focused research, in addition to being attached to teaching responsibilities. The university has initiated research work along with Ph.D. programmes in the areas of diabetes, tuberculosis, molecular studies of cancer, green synthesis of nanoparticles and their application in health, and so on.

The Vice Chancellor of AdtU
Prof. (Dr.) Amarjyoti Choudhury is the Vice Chancellor of AdtU. A graduate with honors in physics from Cotton College, Assam, he pursued his masters in physics from University of Delhi with specialization in solid state physics. He obtained his doctorate degree from University of Oxford. His teaching and research career cover stints at Cotton College, BITS Pilani, Gauhati University, Tezpur University, University of Florence, Italy, and Nuclear Science Centre, New Delhi. A prolific researcher with 148 research papers published in national and international journals, he has guided twenty scholars to doctorate degree.
Remarkable Achievements and Accreditations
Assam down town University is the first private university of the north east region that had an opportunity to award the Honorary Degree (HonorisCausa) Doctor of Science (D. Sc.) to the eminent scientists of international repute like “Bharat Ratna Awardee” Prof. C.N.R. Rao.
The university is officially accredited and recognized by the UGC, AICTE, INC, PCI, IAP, SIRO, and DST, Govt. of India. It is the first private university from the north east being awarded two Mega Network Projects such as on Chemical Profilining of Joha Scented rice Joha and Black rice of NER for nutritional, Nutraceutical parameters and Aromatic compounds and high value phytochemicals of anti-diabetic and immunomodulatory properties in North Eastern banana varieties funded by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India respectively.
On the Career Front
AdtU has an independent Placement Cell to facilitate campus placement and jobs for the students.The placement committee assists students in building relationships with industries/government organizations for summer training, internship, and final placement. The university also conducts northeast India’s largest on-campus placement drivefor students of the entire region.
Students are encouraged to take up internships from 1st year onwards.It gives them an exposure to the real world work environment. Moreover, they are encouraged to either opt for in office internship (during their vacations) or out of office internship wherein the student can work from home. This exercise is a precursor to their final placements once they complete their degree/diploma and helps in building their resume from a very early stage. Regular hands-on workshops/lectures from various industry resources are conducted which give students the industry point of view about the courses that they are undergoing.To cater to the needs of foreign students, AdtU makes arrangements of internships and final placements in their home country.
