Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Nursing is the constituent unit of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (Deemed to be University). It is an ISO 9001: 2015 Certified University and is re-accredited by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.62 on a four-point scale at ‘A’ Grade. Further, it is declared as Category – I University by UGC under Graded Autonomy Regulations, 2018. The Nursing College is well equipped with most modern infrastructure, dedicated and qualified faculty, excellent educational and co-curricular facilities. The goal of the college is to prepare competent graduates in nursing to provide comprehensive nursing care and prepare postgraduate nurses to assume responsibilities as Nurse Specialists, Consultants, Educators and Administrators.

Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Nursing is the only college in Pune PCMC area since 2000. It is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, catering to every need of the students. It provides rich clinical experience in its 1950-bedded owned hospital. The spacious campus is fully equipped with laboratories, lecture halls & auditorium, excellent central library with latest reference books & journals, high-speed Wi-Fi enabled campus,air-conditioned auditorium with 250 seating capacity, air-conditioned seminar hall with 100 seating capacity, well-furnished hostels, highly experienced & well qualified staff as per norms of Indian Nursing Council.

About the Chancellor

The importance of higher education is universally acknowledged, but few people act on it. However, Dr Prasad Dattajirao Patil, Chancellor of the Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune has made “Empowerment through Knowledge” his life’s mission. His work ethos reflects in having a capacity for meticulous planning, vigorous implementation, and leading from the front as a down-earth, people-centric approach. His immense contribution to Socio-Economic Transformation through creation of excellent educational facilities, in various disciplines of education, from Kindergarten to Post graduation (KG to PG) is an outcome of an innate desire to serve the nation.

Dr. P.D. Patil was educated at Pune and graduated in Science and Law. He obtained a doctoral degree in Philosophy. Starting from humble beginning of providing vocational and technical training in the College of Engineering, Pimpri, he with relentless efforts and meticulous planning, developed and excellent academic complex of over fifty institutions for over a period of twenty years. These were the faculties of Engineering, Computer Technology, Information Technology, Management, Education, Law, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Medical Sciences & Health Care including Medical, Dental, Allopathic, Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic, Pharmaceutical, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Optometry institutes, at its Pimpri Campus, and at Tathawade Campus.

About the Vice- Chancellor

Prof. (Dr.) Namdeo Jagannath Pawar is the Vice-Chancellor of Dr.D.Y.Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune. Born in 1957, in a village in Sangli district. He obtained his B.Sc. degree securing first class with Distinction (1974) from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He obtained M.Sc. (Geology) with first class in 1980 from the Pune University and later acquired his Ph.D. degree in Geology, in 1985, from the Pune University. He was recipient of the Young Scientist Award instituted by Indian Science Congress Association Ranchi in 1984 session for his research work. For post-doctoral research, he received the prestigious British Council Fellowship for two consecutive terms in 1985 and 1987 for carrying out research in U.K. Despite hailing from rural based family, Dr Pawar has risen rapidly in the academic circles through sheer perseverance and patience. He has contributed immensely to the fields of teaching and research, especially in terms of his specializations in Hydrogeology and Environmental Geochemistry.

The Robust Curriculum

The college offers exceptional courses in the field of nursing; Basic B.Sc in Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing and M.Sc in Nursing. After completing the required course, one can also pursue Ph.D in Nursing. Students can also opt for the Certificate Course in Critical Care Nursing. The duration of Basic B.Sc in Nursing is 4 years, Post Basic B.Sc is 2 years, M.Sc in Nursing is 2 years, Ph.D is 3 to 5 years and Certificate Course in Critical Care Nursing is 6 months.

Institute’s Highlights

B.Sc and M.Sc students of nursing and faculty of the college carry out various research activities. They are also involved in diverse activities like framing statements, objectives, and review of literature, journal presentation / journal clubs, synopsis & research proposal, which is approved by Scientific Committee, Research & Recognition Committee & Ethics Committee. Extracurricular activities such as Pulse polio, blood donation and National Health Day celebration are observed annually to make the society aware of the benefits of living a positive life.

Students’ Bright Career Ahead

The college has produced numerous graduates, who have made a name for themselves in the industry. They are making the institution proud through their dedication and innovative endeavors. Scholars from the college are placed in Government hospitals and reputed private hospitals and institutions. Many of them are also placed in countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UAE and many more. Furthermore, the University has collaborated with John Hopkins University, USA for placements. For the future, the University is planning to form a partnership with OSAKA University, Japan for Research Activities.

The Achievement Cabinet

Within the span of a decade, the college has achieved a healthy reputation among education receivers and providers.In the last five years, the University has successfully completed and published 59 research publications. Its postgraduate students have completed over 155 dissertations till now. The university grants fund for five research project for faculty every year. Currently, there are thirteen projects on-going and five PhD thesis are already completed.

Promoting Nursing Education

The college is keen to promote nursing education and producing the finest graduates in the field of nursing. It is also keeping itself in line with the industry trends and applications. The already well-resourced infrastructure is upgraded with recent changes regularly. This up gradation occurs in well-equipped skill laboratories available for students including Advance Nursing Laboratory, Community Health Nursing Laboratory, Child Health Nursing Laboratory, Nutrition Laboratory, Obstetrics & Gynecology Laboratory and Science Laboratory.

Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Nursing has organized Continuing Nursing Education for Maharashtra Nursing Council for two years, for all the staff nurses and faculties from Maharashtra State to promote and enhance practical knowledge and can improve their skills. The college is also organizing workshops to improve and update with recent research activities by doing paper presentation, poster presentation in National and International Conferences. Faculty and staff nurses of the hospital regularly conduct ongoing CNE.
