In-between the growing tensions between India and China, the Ministry of Education met the University Grants Commission and representatives of higher education institutions on Wednesday to review the work of the Confucius Institutes and classrooms.

The meeting was attended by seven institutions that run Confucius Institutes, including the University of OP Jindal, Technology Institute Vellore, and the Lovely University. No decision has, however, been made.

The Confucius Institutes worldwide have been criticized for the perceived propaganda of China over the years. Amid reports from India that the nation was planning to review their functioning, the Chinese Embassy on Tuesday asked New Delhi to avoid politicizing normal cooperation.

A comprehensive analysis of all MOUs and collaboration agreements between Indian universities and their counterparts from other countries on higher education will be conducted.
