IIT Delhi has recently launched a free STEM Mentorship Program for girls studying in class XI in government schools. The program is launched to encourage young girls to pursue a career in science and related fields.
For the program, candidates who scored more than 85% marks in class IX and X in Science subject are shortlisted. According to Pritha Chandra the associate dean of Academic Outreach and New Initiatives at IIT, the program is launched to address the gender imbalance and improve the representation of women in STEM.
The STEM mentorship program is free and is irrespective of the economic status of the students. Pritha Chandra believes that if proper guidance is given to young girls then it can provide an impetus to them for their career in science and technology.
