As Legal education fulfills a broader set of social, economic and educational goal and aspirations, today, it has become an instrument of social control and social change. Legal education can serve the society by transforming the present-day students into the law-abiding citizens of tomorrow.

The Indore Institute of Law(IIL) in its students has been successfully instilling a sense of broad perspective along with scholastic and reflexive capabilities bearing in mind larger national and humanitarian goals. The Institute not only imparts legal education, but also caters to the vocational needs of law scholars.

The IIL which is affiliated to Bar Council of India & Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore, was established in the year 2003. Remarkably, the institute is only the private college in Madhya Pradesh that offers integrated courses like BA LLB (Hons.), BBA LLB (Hons.), LLB (Hons.), LLM under one roof.

A Complete Education

At the institute, there are two undergraduate and post graduate law programs offered – BA LLB and BBA LLB with a duration of five years. For BA LLB and BBA LLB only graduates can apply for the programs. It facilitates LLB (Hons.) after graduation and LLM after LLB The candidates who are admitted to the 5DYC Program are shortlisted on the basis of IILET (Indore Institute of Law Entrance Test scores).

To develop research & analytical skills in students, the institute promotes various publications. The institute regularly publishes it’s own law journal named “The Legal Voice of India” having ISSN No. 22778454 and Law & Management Journal “Udgyam Vigyati” having ISSN no.24552488.

Further, to their credit stands a monthly newsletter “Nyaya Disha” which is again a wonderful platform for the students to showcase their deep understanding of law & its surroundings. The institute believes, the platform will lead the students to be an excellent legal professional.

Mr. Akshay Kanti Bam, Chairman, Indore Institute of Law and an alumnus of Daly College, Indore and Sydenham College, Bombay is a renowned personality in the field of education.

He is a man of substance who has the courage to chase the dreams and turn them into reality. In the tender age of 23 years, he followed his dreams of starting a Law College. Providing finest opportunity and environment, within a short span of 10 years he has made the institute a prominent name in legal education in India.

Mr. Bam is a recipient of ‘ICON of Madhya Pradesh’ by Outlook for Extraordinary Contribution in Education. He has been awarded as the ‘Captains of Industry Award 2015’ from Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He is also recognized for ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2016’ by Madhya Pradesh Entrepreneur & Excellence Award, Indore 2016.

Academically, he completed his LLB and secured second place in merit list of DAVV & then completed his MBA.

The Community Behind the Foundation

Team IIL desires to give their students national as well as international exposure. The institute believes in inculcating education with high level of ethics. Classroom sessions are accompanied with guest lectures by renowned legal luminaries at different interval.

At the same time, to carve globally competent students, the institute has signed a knowledge partnership with British Legal Center for international internship. For regular workshops it has tied up with internationally famed trainers.

For paving their way to international lawyering, the team regularly organizes educational visits of students to International Court of Justice & International Criminal Court, Hague, Netherlands. They are looking further for students exchange program with foreign universities.

Generations of its students since the establishment of the institute in 2003 have strengthened its reputation. The College has strived to impart socially relevant and professionally designed legal education for last 16+ years.

  • The institute has achieved various laurels throughout its glorious journey. It was selected for the ‘Education Excellence Award’ by Brands Academy India, ‘Best Education Building of Central India’ by Dainik Bhaskar and Ernst & Young, and ‘Golden Book of World Records’.

Testing Ground for Bold Experiments

Along the legal complexities, it is crucial to study the impact of globalization on social and political institutions. To facilitate such study, IIL makes efforts to effectively combine the theory and practice of law. It has a dedicated student exchange program that enables students exposure to Global Law Practices and moot sessions.

IIL takes its students for academic visits to The International Court of Justice and The International Criminal Court, Hague, Netherlands. This exposure helps the students to improve their language learning, enhance their intercultural skills, and polish their self-reliance and self-awareness.

IIL provides International Clinical Training to their students in the way of In-house Clinics, Externship Clinics, Independent Clinical Programs, Pro Bono Programs, and various Competency Development Programs.

Student engagement for knowledge enhancement at IIL is through various ways like classroom training, through industry interaction, skill assessments, counseling, feedback sessions, mock interviews, opportunity-based training and many more.

In order to develop participation, team building and leadership skills, IIL has formed various student-run committees which are governed by the student council. These students run committees are – Election Commission, Literary Society, Moot Court Society, Event Management Society, Sports Society, Online Society, Placement Society, Alumni Society and Legal aid Society.

Strengthening the Future

IIL is on a mission to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law, make the legal process an efficient instrument of social development. It wishes to establish new standards of excellence in legal education and emerge as a premier center for legal education, and research.

Since lawyers are expected to have a personality almost unparalleled to any other profession, IIL will be focusing on enhancing students personalities, income Social Status, and Self Esteem. To increase the exposure from the current level, IIL is planning tie-ups with reputed legal firms in order to enable students with better internships that could result in better placements.

Furthermore, IIL envisages to improve the Moot Court culture in the college. It is striving to make students ready for the future oriented subjects such as Cyber Laws, Maritime Laws Space Laws, Intellectual Property Rights, etc. The institute aims to develop a better relationship to inculcate development into the system and improve it in a holistic manner.
