Institute of Sports Science and Technology is one of the leading autonomous sports and fitness education institutes in India, established in 2009. It was launched with an aim to provide a scientific approach to sports and fitness education giving utmost guidance to aspirants interested in making a career in the sports industry. ISST has a ‘Student Accreditation’ certification from the International Sports Professionals Association (ISPA), Chicago, USA for all of its courses. The ISPA certification is an internationally recognized credential.

The Resourceful Personalities

Institute of Sports Science and Technology is the brainchild of like-minded and passionate personalities, who have taken the institute to new heights. Dr. P.C. Shejwalkar, senior educationist, management expert and Professor Emeritus of Commerce and Management Sciences, Ujwala Lunawat, a National Gold medalist in basketball, Former Member of Maharashtra state sports council and Dr. Vipul Lunawat are the founders of ISST.

The ISST Chairperson, Ujwala Lunawat has been the key person behind the success of ISST. Being a National Gold Medalist in Basketball, she is thoroughly passionate. With her meticulous work ethical approach, she has successfully won the Rajiv Gandhi Award for developing sports infrastructure in Pune and become the Former Member of Maharashtra state sports council, Maharashtra Rajya Krida Parishad (Maharashtra State Sports Council).

The ISST Director, Dr. Vipul Lunawat is the driving force of the institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Sports Management and has Level 02 coaching certification from Australian Ice Racing (AIR) in Short Track Speed Ice skating, certified by Olympic Solidarity program. He is the Winner of Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) National Award 2018 for Excellence and Leadership in Sports.

He has been instrumental in setting up the institute since the beginning and has been involved in developing various programs in sports and fitness education.

The institute has few prominent personalities like Mr. Abhinav Bindra – India’s first Olympic Gold Medalist in the 10 metre Air Rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Mr. Antonio Robustelli – International Sports Performance Expert from Italy, Late. Mr. Bhishmaraj Bam – International Sports Psychologist, Dr. Manit Arora – Sports Medicine expert etc. to name a few on our Advisory Board.

Bestowing Best-in-class Amenities

ISST is one of its kind and probably the only specialized Institute in India providing professional courses in sports education. It offers its programs in two verticals, distance education and classroom education. Through the distance education, the institute provides its courses to students from across different cities in India and also provides them internship/placement opportunities in top sports companies/organizations pan India.

The classroom courses are conducted in Pune at ISST campus and the faculty for the classroom courses are all the industry experts who have extensive work experience with top sports companies. It invites various guest speakers from the industry from various fields.

Apart from the educational programs, ISST also runs two multi-sport centers in Pune catering to sports like cricket, basketball, football, gymnastics, roller-skating, and ice-skating. Students from the age-group of 3 years and above are given coaching by a team of elite coaches, who are highly committed to help students excel to their maximum potential. The students have the opportunity to work with their sports clubs as interns for practical exposure.

Institute of Sports Science and Technology has following facilities for following sports at its campus: basketball, cricket, football, skating, gymnastics, gym facilities, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation.

An Overview of the Syllabus 

The industry-oriented course syllabus aims at and provides a mix of theory with case studies, video lecture content, online examinations and internship experience for practical exposure.

ISST’s Distance Education structure:

• The study material contains study notes of all the chapters in the course structure and the detailed information highlighting the relevant topics.
• A video lecture DVD is also sent as part of the course material to the student which contains summary of the major topics covered in the course, wherein the faculty explains important terms with examples.

The certification for this program will be jointly issued by ISST and ISPA. Internationally recognized ‘Student Accreditation’ certification from International Sports Professionals Association, ISPA, Chicago, USA.

ISST is planning to establish a sports science center which will cater to elite athletes to improve their performance and eventually craft a pathway for research oriented programs in sports technology and sciences.
