Bigwigs of JBIMS
Analogous to a well-known phrase ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’, the legacy of JBIMS cannot be attributed to a single person. It’s a result of concomitant efforts of various individuals with zeal to create something bigger for societal good. It all started with the beloved Dr. Kalyan S. Basu, who ‘crossed the street’ from Hindustan Lever (ex-Vice President) to the Founder and Director of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. He constantly manifested his profound love and concern for youngsters, and also, his undying passion for management education as a vital resource for India’s progress. His zealous initiative behind starting an institute for the national progress has inspired multiple generations of students and faculty alike and it still continues to do so.
Integrity and smoothness of this mechanism is what gives JBIMS its shine. Maintaining those values isn’t a small task and it had been performed relentlessly, time and again by the institute’s directors. Reins are handed over to a new director in every 3 years, who are sharing the same vision and zeal as late Dr. K. S. Basu, drives the legacy forward to the new heights. Currently, Dr. Kavita Laghate, holds the position of Director at JBIMS, who has been associated with the institute since past 13 years.
Dr. Kavita has played an instrumental role in acquiring an autonomous status for the institute leading the initiative from front. She incorporated the MSc. Finance course which is the first of its kind in India. She has also worked towards enhancing alumni connect and has initiated plan for the new state-of-the-art campus and plans to implement the initiative in near future.
Career Opportunities and Exposures
Besides the regular curriculum, the students are also involved in co-curricular activities like inter business school competitions, research projects conducted by the institute and are constantly interacting with the industry, thus strengthening their practical orientation and developing themselves into future business managers. The events, such as Enactus—building a better tomorrow, E-Confluence, International Research Conference, Strategym, Prayaag, Pratyaksha, Prabhav are organized by the institute. Also, it arranges guest lectures, which are a quick and highly effective form of getting students up to the pace with corporate culture, challenges and developments. Students of JBIMS actively participate in various corporate competitions, where they go with top ‘B’ school students across the country. In many of the competitions, the students have proved their mettle.
Apart from the mentioned activities, whole host of recruiters from various sectors such as BFSI & IB, FMCG & Pharmaceuticals, Conglomerates, Manufacturing & Automobile, Technology & others, visit the institute for recruiting for summer and executive placements. Highly respected organizations such as Capgemini, TCS, Vodafone, Wipro, L&T, Maruti Suzuki, and many more extensively participate in the placement drive.
Accomplished Alumnus
JBIMS calls its visiting faculty and its alumni as a second pillar that upholds the institute. Those individuals share same passion for management education and share their valuable knowledge and rich experience with the students. In this way, the institute is effortlessly bridging the gap between academic learning’s and real world applications.
