Students in the state-run schools of Maharashtra may soon learn extra subjects linked to farming as part of their syllabus. After the meeting between the Department of Agriculture and the Department of School Education, the state government is likely to add agriculture and agronomy (agriculture economy) to the syllabus.
The decision is taken considering that over 50% of students studying at schools are living in rural areas. The introduction of these subjects will be an opportunity for the students, whose parents are involved in farming. However, it is unclear that in which grade, the proposed subjects will be introduced.
