Maine School District Faces Shortage of School Bus Drivers

The Maine school district is struggling to recruit school bus drivers after reopening the schools. If schools are unable to fill the vacancies, it may lead to overworking of existing drivers and will increase the traveling time of students. Some schools are offering additional bonuses and incentives to retain the transportation staff.

Hiring and retaining bus drivers is always a challenging task. There are many issues regarding the low payment, time and cost for licensing, which causes friction between the bus drivers and school administration. But the pandemic made it worst and many bus drivers are not willing to work, as there is a fear of pandemic amongst them.
