For teachers in some Michigan school districts desperate to recruit them, student debts could be tied to student lunches.
A bill recently filed in the Senate would establish a student loan forgiveness program for teachers who work in schools where at least half of the pupils meet the free or reduced lunch program’s economic eligibility standards.
According to current data from Public School Review, an organization that analyses public school data by state, that’s 45 percent of Michigan’s public-school kids.
