Situated at Mumbai, Maharashtra, Nair Hospital Dental College is one of the premier institutes of the country. The history of the college dates back to the pro-British era in the year 1933, when late Ex Dean Dr. V.M. Desai conceived the idea of a national dental college. With the help of other founder members, Dr. A.L. Nair and Dr. M. Venkat Rao, Dr. Desai pioneered to mark the beginning of a new era in dentistry.

The college is spread across a campus of eight acres and houses a total number of four fully air-conditioned class rooms, two auditoriums, and six seminar halls. It also has three state-of-the-art well-equipped operation theatres and ICUs facility in the medical college and 25 bedded and well-equipped indoor wards along with supporting 1700 bedded Dr. B.Y.L. Nair Charitable Hospital, Mumbai. Additional facilities of the college include 180 completely functional high end electrical dental chairs and Wi-Fi enabled campus with cutting-edge facilities like CBCT Centre, implantology section, and twin simulator student labs. The college also has an AC library with around 10199 books and 85 journals to its credit.

The college’s prime focus is on imparting experiential learning through specialized undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in different areas of dental studies. Accordingly, Nair Hospital Dental College organizes a monthly “Meet the Expert” series, where stalwarts in various fields of dentistry are invited to provide career guidance guide to the students. It also takes pride in hosting various national and international conferences in various subjects of dentistry at the institute.
Beyond Academics
Nair Hospital Dental College has taken various initiatives to create awareness regarding oral and dental health. It organizes various camps to create awareness regarding dental health as well as effects of tobacco and related products on oral health. The college has conducted 17 health camps in which around 2761 patients have been screened in 2018-19. It has also collaborated with BEST employees where it performs bi-weekly oral check-up drive within BEST premises and counsels workers regarding the reduction of tobacco consumption, oral precancerous and cancerous lesions. The college pays utmost importance to increasing access to education and quality patient care.
The Dedicated Leader
The personality leading the college towards excellence is none other than the college’s Dean, Dr. Neelam N. Andrade. She took on her responsibilities on December 2017 and has been marching ahead with dedication and remarkable enthusiasm. A strict administrator, known for her leadership qualities, Neelam is rebuilding and redesigning the future of the institute. With over three decades of teaching experience, she has 72 national and international publications to her credit and has made a total of 130 presentations at state/ national/ international levels. Dr. Andrade has taken stringent efforts to develop the PHD by procuring a state of art Mobile Dental Van, starting a clinical PHD dept., a No Tobacco Cessation Dedicated centre and a soon to start satellite dental services clinic near Ganeshpuri.

The college takes numerous steps to ensure that the students are given ample opportunities towards career development. It gives the provision of recommendation for students who are willing to pursue foreign degrees. Additionally, it offers campus recruitment in transcript writing in collaboration with IKS Health. Marching towards the future, the college plans to come up with a modern 11 storey extension building NHDC, the work for which has commenced in 2018 and is to be completed by 2022.
