A prominent institute making a name for itself in terms of quality education in business management is Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS). It is a Private University established by an Act of the State of Karnataka, India. The University has been granted 2f status by UGC. It is sponsored by Gokula Education Foundation (M) – a public charitable trust owned by M. S. Ramaiah family. The foundation has promoted more than 20 institutions in the last 55 years offering higher education and quality healthcare.

RUAS is established with a vision to be known as a modern, innovation-intensive University. Further, it aims to focus it’s programmes on student-centric higher education to equip the graduates with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional excellence. The University aims to produce graduates who are confident, can think creatively, and apply their academic learning and practical skills to find innovative solutions to problems faced by Society.

RUAS has Faculties of Engineering and Technology, Art and Design, Management and Commerce, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Life and Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Dental Sciences, Hospitality Management & Catering Technology and Schools of Social Sciences and Law. All the Faculties/Schools offer Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. programmes.

The University infrastructure supports 10,000 students. There are separate Directorates like Internal Quality Assurance Cell; Student Affairs; Sponsored Research; Training and Lifelong Learning; Techno Centre; Transferable Skills and Leadership Development; and International Collaborations and Partnership Management. The Directorates support academic activities and interaction with Industry, Business, Government, and other Universities in India and Abroad. RUAS has invested in advanced design, simulation, manufacturing, and testing facilities, all housed in modern buildings.

RUAS has implemented an outcome-based curriculum that focuses on equipping the students with knowledge and understanding, cognitive abilities, and practical skills relevant to Industrial and Societal needs. The University has adopted global best practices in teaching, learning and assessment to ensure all-round development of students for a happy and successful career. Being a comprehensive University and unitary in nature, the courses are inter and multi-disciplinary, which are an essential characteristic of present-day education. About the Faculty of Management and Commerce

At the Faculty of Management and Commerce (FMC), the concerned authorities believe that education should be agile and designed to adapt to industry 4.0‑driven trends and shifts. The FMC at RUAS aims to deliver competency and outcome-based Management and Commerce education with inter and multi-disciplinary approach. It focuses on adopting global educational practices, emphasizing the development of critical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities in its graduates and associates with a passion for lifelong learning and independent thinking. The Faculty equally emphasizes creating new knowledge through Research, Consultancy, MDPs/LDPs, Doctoral Programme, Publications, participating in Policy and Decision Making.

The Faculty Members of FMC include academicians from reputed Universities in India and abroad. They come with a rich industry experience as well. They bring the latest innovative academic practices to the classroom – offline and online — so that students acquire critical knowledge and develop research as well as analytical skills for effective problem solving and decision-making.

The faculty members conduct contemporary research that covers important applications for Industry and Society by using appropriate research methodologies. They regularly publish in world-class academic journals in their domain. Moreover, the Faculty Member also engage in delivering MDPs/LDPs, Consultancy and Sponsored Research for Industries and other Government Organisations by utilizing their extensive experience. Students are also involved in these projects. Few of the completed projects include: Development of Green Innovations Framework for the Manufacturing Industry (sponsored by NSTMIS-DST); Technology Gap Analysis Study for Mysore Printing Cluster (sponsored by TIFAC-DST); Technology Gap Analysis Study for Channapatna Toys Cluster (sponsored by TIFAC-DST).

The curriculum of all Programmes is periodically reviewed by a reputed Board of Studies drawn from reputed Institutions like IISc, IIMs, IITs and reputed Industry Organisations. Further, the curriculum is aligned with the changing needs of the business world.

The Extra-Curricular Arena

While pursuing his/her education in the University, a student requires various facilities and opportunities to stimulate the emotional and aesthetic well-being and kindle the intellectual and cognitive development in parallel. With this noble objective, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences created the Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA) to facilitate and assist students’ diverse needs. The DSA provides innovative co-curricular experiences that augment well-being, nurture life and academic skill development, create responsibility, and cultivate leadership competence. It is committed to students’ well-being and accomplishments both inside and outside the classroom.  The DSA conducts a variety of activities and events that provide extra-curricular opportunities and ensure the overall growth of the students. CONOCERSE 2020-2021 is a series of Creatively Fun-Filled Opportunities for new students to meet their fellow classmates.

Every year, students of the University take the initiative to conduct on a large scale in the campus, known as – “DIMDIMA”. Because of  COVID-19, students are unable to be on campus. To ensure the continuity of the event and to bring cheer on the students’ face in these challenging times, the DSA took upon the responsibility to hold the celebrations online.

The DSA also conducts various talent hunts to encourage the students to explore their hidden talent. This not only allows the students to enjoy and celebrate but also helps them to nurture themselves and to become better versions of themselves.

Leadership worth Applauding

RUAS marches ahead confidently under the visionary leadership of Dr. M. R. Jayaram, the  Chairman of Gokula Education Foundation (GEF) and the Chancellor of Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru. He is a visionary, philanthropist, industrialist, and bureaucrat. He has been honoured with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by the University of Illinois Chicago Senate, which is another “Jewel in the Crown”.

Dr. M. R. Jayaram has pioneered an inclusive and innovative higher education system under a unified brand name, “The Ramaiah Group of Educational Institutions”. Through pioneering initiatives and providing state-of-the-art infrastructure, he has dedicated himself to a mission of “Inclusive Excellence.”

Achievements Galore

RUAS has always focused on the academic and career development of the students. The concerted efforts have earned numerous laurels and recognitions. It is categorized as ‘Band B’ institution (rank between 26-50) in the category of ‘University (Private-Self-Financed)’ in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievement (ARIIA) – 2021 announced in December 2021. Further, the University is recognized by the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) by Ministry of Education. It has bagged the 15th rank under Dental Sciences and 52nd Rank in Pharmacy in NIRF – 2021.
