Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science (SRCAS) (formerly SNR Sons College) is a 32-year-old prominent institution in Coimbatore. Instituted in the heart of the city, the college is spread across 16.28 acres of land. The institution comes under the renowned S.N.R Sons Charitable Trust, Coimbatore. Since its inception, the college has maintained its uniqueness in introducing new courses, concepts, and innovative practices in the field of higher education. It was SNR Sons College which first introduced electronics and CS & HM in undergraduate programs in 1990s. In 2017 again, SRCAS was the first institute to introduce twinning programs in the streams of arts and science with Asia Pacific University, Malaysia.
Ensuring Academic Development of the Students
The college has taken various steps to make sure that the students excel in their curriculum. Some of the various initiatives carried out by SRCAS include:
- ICT Tools: From the academic year 2018-19, along with the ICT tools, the platforms like Kahoot and Hot Potatoes were introduced to make the class interesting and effective
- Through the Innovation Centre, three start up projects have been introduced
- Study abroad program with Asia Pacific University, Malaysia for computer science and commerce students has been implemented successfully
- Incentives for the research and consultancy projects have been introduced
- MoU with Sunway University, Malaysia, and Amiti University, Singapore to introduce study abroad program
The Erudite Leader
Dr. K. Karunakaran is the Principal and Secretary of the institution. He holds a doctoral degree in chemistry, and leveraging 28 years of experience in the field of higher education, Dr. Karunakaran has attained the position of an administrator. He is also the President of colleges which are affiliated to Bharathiar University Principals’ Association. Under his guidance, the college has procured numerous laurels.
Noteworthy Achievements
SRCAS has made numerous accomplishments throughout its glorious journey. It was granted the status of autonomous in 2004 by UGC. It received NAAC ‘A-Grade’ re-accreditation in the 3rd cycle. CIAC has extended its International Accreditation to the college with 3.5/4.0 until 2019. The institute has achieved 100% admissions in the undergraduate programs.

Accomplishments of Alumni
The institution has produced many graduates who have made their mark in various walks of life. The Alumni Association has been strengthened with 1700 + successful alumni in the year and in the department level, alumni meetings were conducted for students of 1993, 2014, and 2018 batches. Graduates of SRCAS are serving various reputed multinational companies in and around the world. The alumni provide network strengths and enable continuous industry academic interface. They also conduct various activities like student counseling and self-assessment workshops.
Career Development Initiatives
Along with exceptional educational facilities, SRCAS provides students the scope for excellent career development. They conduct various events to ensure that the students are able to make it big in the career front. The students of the School of Computing studied a course on “Intelligent Systems for Digital Age” in Asia Pacific University, Malaysia from 4th October to 16th October 2019. In August 2018, under Skill Development Program, Robotic Process Automation was offered. The faculty members completed the training of RPA “Hello Bot: Introduction to RPA” & “Break the ICE: An Introduction to Creating your First Bot”. The school conducted two international lecture series on 11th July and 14th September, 2018. The department conducted six industry interaction sessions. 91 % of the students completed Python Training, Rin Career Ready Academy Course Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, and Texas Instrumentation.
To promote a healthy psychological atmosphere, the college has constituted a counseling cell that consists of professionals and faculty members. The Entrepreneur Development Cell provides the opportunity to transform students’ ideas into reality by providing an adequate platform. Additionally, the Training Internship and Placement (TIP) cell trains the students for resume building, mock interview sessions, GD preparation, and aptitude training to prepare for the final placement.
Towards the Future
Marching forward, the institute aims at industry integration courses to maintain industry institute relationships. It will continue to deliver the high quality education and is keen to adopt industry trends and applications. The school of computing has planned to sign MoUs with abroad university for student exchange programs.
