Summer Breaks May End Soon
pandemic outbreak

The pandemic outbreak has halted all the activities of higher education institutions (HEIs). However, the central government is likely to ask the education department and higher education institutions to frame a new academic calendar.

The centre will likely ask the authorities to advance or curtail the summer vacation to minimize the loss of academic days of the 2020-2021 session. Reports also state that a panel under The University Grants Commission might submit its recommendations to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) suggesting the start of online classes for all HEIs

A senior official of the MHRD also stated that it would most likely request state boards and HEIs to cut short the summer breaks and reopen as soon as possible, once the lockdown is lifted. The official also stated that, “there is a possibility that the lockdown period from April 1 will only be considered as summer vacation and academic activities might restart from mid or the third week of May.”
