The Testing Kit Developed by IIT-Delhi gets ICMR Approval

The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi has developed a low-cost coronavirus testing kit. This kit was developed using the indigenously developed technology and was made using just a few hundred rupees. Despite this, the kit has been approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

IIT-Delhi is now in the process of identifying an industry partner for this kit and also aims to get production rolling this week. The 10 member team of the institute including four faculty members identified unique regions in the COVID-19 genome. IIT-Delhi is the first institute to have obtained ICMR approval in real-time for the PCR-based diagnostic assay.
