About the Dean

Professor Jayanti Panchal is the Dean of the Institute. He is a product designer with more than 55 years of experience in the field of design teaching and design practice. He has a background in Mechanical Engineering. He commenced his career as a Lecturer at RC Technical Institute. In 1961, after spending one year in the textile machinery manufacturing industry in Ahmedabad, he joined NID in the year 1963 and retired as the principal designer in the year 2000. During his tenure at NID, he was awarded with a scholarship from Ford Foundation and from Rockefeller Foundation in the year 1970.In the year 1985; he was deputed for International work experience in ULM West Germany and Austria. Later on in his career he was associated with the Bureau of Indian Standard as a technical member for Furniture and Machine tools standards formulating committees.

His noticeable projects are designing a voting machine (EVM) and preparing a feasibility report for Indian Institute of Craft Design (IICD) Jaipur. As a Design consultant and has been working as a visiting Professor in Design Colleges such as NID, MIT, NIFT, DJAD, Symbiosis etc. He joined as a Dean of UID on 8 May 2017.

About the Director

Col S Bose is the Director of the Institute. He has an extensive experience of over a decade in administration & management of higher education in Design. He has pursued Master’s in Business Administration from Delhi Productivity Council as part of Delhi University.  As Head International Relations, he had proactively fostered abiding partnerships with top Design Schools for faculty exchanges and student mobility with credit transfers.  He is a proud recipient of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Card for illustrious military service of over two decades.

He has been instrumental to steer UID’s membership to premier internationally recognized Art & Design organizations / forums – WDO (formerly – ICSID), ADI & Cumulus Association. He has been an Administrator for UK Govt. sponsored – UKIERI Projects for academic research & faculty / staff & student mobility. Coordinated and developed partnerships with National Skills Development Councils (NSDC) / Apparel Made-ups Home Furnishing Sector Skills Council/ Media & Entertainment Skills Council.

Harshad Mane designed a café for Divyeshdesai & associates, Mareena Jacob (M. Des. 2015-17) for a famous interior design consultant, Lavina Utamani (M. Des. 2014-16) for Certificate of Excellence as an TSEC Ambassador 2011-12, Certificate of Excellence as an TSEC Envoy 2011-12. The Project entitled ‘PROTOTYPE OF A NEONATAL INCUBATOR’ was selected for the second round of Niyantra, year 2011-12, an event by National Instruments, Bangalore.

Merit cum Means Scholarships

KU believes in extending financial assistance to deserving students who belong to the economically weaker section of society. The university awards scholarship to meritorious students in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Scholarships for Defence Wards

Widows/wards of defense personnel killed in action, wards of serving personnel, and ex-servicemen disabled in action Widows/wards of defense personnel also receive financial assistance.

The career service department (CSD) at UID provides a strategic platform to synergize and facilitate interaction between academia and industry with an idea to provide exposure to students.This generates opportunities for students such as graduation projects, industrial training, classrooms, and live projects.
